The Crown & Anchor is a rustic Grade II-listed pub on Chiswick high street. Refined British pub cuisine and an evergreen stock of beers and wines set the tone at this elegant London pub, which dates back to the 19th century.

Sophisticated modern dishes on The Crown & Anchor menu include seabass with chickpeas, chorizo and squid, and a sumptuous wing rib of beef to share, with béarnaise and triple cooked chips. There are ever-popular pub classics like Gloucester Old Spot sausages and mash, and seasonal pies, which keep company with innovative craft beers, international lagers and specialist spirits.

A spacious, open-plan layout and bright pastel colours lend this historic Chiswick pub a contemporary ambience, whilst traditional heritage is maintained with a cast iron wood burner and chunky farmhouse tables. Sunday provides the opportunity to sample the famous Crown & Anchor Sunday roast.

Sitting between Turnham Green and Chiswick Common, The Crown & Anchor is a 6-minute walk from Chiswick Park Tube Station.

Nice for a drink, OK for dinner. Food portions were erratic with 4 fish and chips ordered. Some huge some tiny. Chicken pie was outstanding. Burger was nothing special and small for a burger. Good chips.

Hospitality training required. Left to fend for ourselves. Went to bar to get wine. Was asked if I would like to open a tab. I reminder the server that we were dining so could we pay at the end of the meal. No, so I opened a tab. Carried the wine in ice bucket and glasses back to our table. And we waited. And waited. Another group of diners arrived and were shown to their table by the waitress. There was 5 minutes of discussion regarding the menu (I'm surmising this as the menus were held aloft and there was pointing to menu items). And we waited. Turns out, in the small print of the menu, that one places an order at the bar. That's fine but it could have been mentioned when we arrived and spoke to the bar woman. Clearly an exception had been made for the other table. We drank our wine, paid, spoke to the manager (sorry about that) and left. Went to a new local Thai restaurant. A master class in hospitality and good food.
Never going back to the Crown and Anchor. Shame, used to OK before this new owner.

Menu getting better and better, fantastic pudding selection along with locally sourced produce. We had our toddler with us and they rushed out his food first, along with some juice from a good selection. Perfect Sunday roast lunch with excellent selection of craft beers.

Food was good but service was a little disjointed - i appreciate that we were a large group but one of our number did not receive his meal until after the rest of us had finished theirs. This is problem due to short-staffing or the like, but needs to be addressed. Also, food is pretty expensive.
