18 September 2018
Set in a 16th-century tavern with historic seafaring connections, the Crooked Billet – Leigh-on-Sea serves British pub classics in a warm, welcoming ambience. Located just by the sea, the pub features a large al fresco terrace for sunny summer dining.
Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Crooked Billet menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.
The Crooked Billet bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.
Crooked Billet – Leigh-on-Sea in Southend-on-Sea is a 4-minute drive from Chalkwell Rail Station. Leigh-on-Sea Broadway (East-bound) bus station is an 8-minute walk away.

Food great and prices too. Toilet facilities could be improved, best described as 'rustic'.

Very good again. The onl negative was they ran out of the Dead Canary ale just after they gave me a taste of it.

Wonderful! They went above and beyond to make the table and our experience nice for my mums birthday, they even offered to send a member of staff to get a banner for her! The food was delicious, especially recommend the cheddar mushrooms and the sea bass with gin and tonic sauce. We are g&t fans so we had a few and they are not tight on the servings. It was very nice to have them served in crystal glasses too. All in all a very nice meal with lovely, friendly staff.
