Restaurant description

Awarded an AA Rosette, The Brasserie Bar & Restaurant at Crewe Hall offers a contemporary twist on classic flavours. Afternoon Tea at Crewe Hall is a luxurious treat for those wanting to experience classic dining tradition in a quintessentially British setting.

The grill menu at Crewe Hall showcases prime cuts of meat such as sirloin steak served homemade chips, or roast bone marrow with braised beef brisket and blue cheese. Elsewhere on the menu find the likes of pan-fried sea bass with potato gnocchi, and sticky toffee pudding with sea salt caramel ice cream.

All the traditional treats are served on the Afternoon Tea at Crewe Hall menu, and come beautifully presented. To start, there are delicate finger sandwiches with gourmet fillings like poached chicken with lime and coriander mayonnaise, and English salted cucumber with apple crème fraîche, moving on to home-baked plain and sultana scones served with Cornish clotted cream and red berry preserves.

A luxurious treat in historic surroundings, Crewe Hall is 8 minutes' drive from Crewe Rail Station.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

The building is special, but the afternoon tea experience isn’t. The Hall is surrounded by an industrial estate and the initial approach is not prepossessing. The building itself is beautiful, with Jacobean origins and many unique features. Tea is on a standard with any good cafe or tea shop, served cheerfully but routinely in the side lounge just off reception. The modern teapots are fiddly and don’t keep the tea warm. The highlight was the invitation to look around the public rooms in the Hall ourselves, but more information about the Hall and it’s history would have enhanced this experience.

Booked for afternoon tea as an anniversary event, we were meet by an excellent member of staff who showed us to our seats and was very attentive throughout. The food was very good as was the tea which was served in the traditional way.

Overall really overpriced for what you get. Small selection of sandwiches and sweet which were tasty, but not worth the price. Tea was excellent, but coffee was weak and tasteless.
