Restaurant description

A unique venue bringing together original features and contemporary decor, The Cowshed at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel derives its name from its original purpose on the farm; it housed the owner's herd of dairy cows from 1931 until 1980. Guests can relax in a comfortable, modern setting with cow inspired lighting and cow inspired furniture.

Traditional Afternoon Tea is served in a bright and spacious setting at The Cowshed. On the menu is a sumptuous selection of delectable finger sandwiches, savouries, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, mini cakes and biscuits, in addition to a range of award-winning teas. Tewin Bury Farm Hotel received an Award of Excellence at the 2019 Afternoon Tea Awards.

From October 2019, The Cowshed will come to life on Friday and Saturday evenings as it transforms into the Cowshed Steakhouse. Working alongside the best local suppliers around, the restaurant team offers an amazing evening experience.

The newest venue at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel, The Cowshed is a 6-minute drive from Welwyn North Rail Station and easily accessible from the A1 motorway.

We were not allowed in as we didn’t have face masks - we were not warned prior to this. Instead we sat outside and were pleasantly surprised by the bill which was much cheaper than expected even before the discount. Maybe there are lower prices than stated on the menu if outside?

The dining experience was good, although it’s such a shame there’s no bar area available after 6.00pm to relax and enjoy drinks before and after the meal. The person who served us was good and looked after us well. The menu was OK although it feels the choice of one option more for each course would really enhance the experience. The wine list could surely be extended as well.

We had a very enjoyable dinner/evening. The food was fresh and able to assist with our special dietary requirements. The staff were friendly and helpful although we found one female member had a bit of a "computer says no" attitude - but all other members were very friendly and helpful. The lamb was delicious as was the fish however the steak we had was tough and not very tasty. We enjoyed 3 out of 4 of our meals. We would have liked cocktails before the evening but was told that you dont serve these which we thought was a missed opportunity. We found the restaurant extremely clean and good Covid19 precautionary measures in place so felt safe. Loved the setting.

Lovely location, friendly & professional staff. Service was about slow - sometimes we felt Ignored whilst other tables were getting more service. Salmon starter had loads of salmon (good) but not enough ‘sauce’ (cream fraiche?) or blinis. Steak was spot on and that’s why we went there. I had requested a Hendricks (single) but they had runout (?!) so I selected another gin (also very nice). Bill showed we were charged for a double Hendricks . Did not bother to raise it but disappointed that their system failed. Otherwise very pleasant & yes we would go back.

The Cowshed was beautiful inside and on the terrace, the staff were welcoming and all wearing masks which is great in these times plus all the cleaning. Service and food was superb

I booked afternoon tea as a treat for my brother and niece. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. The outside seating area where we sat is very pleasant. I would be very happy to recommend the Cowshed
