Restaurant description

A unique venue bringing together original features and contemporary decor, The Cowshed at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel derives its name from its original purpose on the farm; it housed the owner's herd of dairy cows from 1931 until 1980. Guests can relax in a comfortable, modern setting with cow inspired lighting and cow inspired furniture.

Traditional Afternoon Tea is served in a bright and spacious setting at The Cowshed. On the menu is a sumptuous selection of delectable finger sandwiches, savouries, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, mini cakes and biscuits, in addition to a range of award-winning teas. Tewin Bury Farm Hotel received an Award of Excellence at the 2019 Afternoon Tea Awards.

From October 2019, The Cowshed will come to life on Friday and Saturday evenings as it transforms into the Cowshed Steakhouse. Working alongside the best local suppliers around, the restaurant team offers an amazing evening experience. With Sirloin, Fillet, Ribeye and Chateaubriand on the menu, you can enjoy the perfect steak cooked just the way you like it.

The newest venue at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel, The Cowshed is a 6-minute drive from Welwyn North Rail Station and easily accessible from the A1 motorway.

The restaurant is located at a beautiful county manor hotel with beautiful grounds. The restaurant itself is classy but not over the top. The Afternoon Tea had plenty of different items in well measured portions to provide lots of variety and plenty to feast on. Even had a vegetarian option. The choice of teas was excellent and the presentation was top notch. I would recommend the teas, macarons and scones .... Together with great service and at very reasonable prices, this was an excellent all round experience and we all had a lovely time. My mum was really chuffed.

Four of us a lovely afternoon tea. The food was soo nice and very filling. The staff were very attentive but at the same time not over the top. The cowshed was very busy but we were not rushed, we had a wonderful relaxing afternoon tea.

The food was amazing and attention to detail was first class. Restaurant and facilities were spotlessly clean and waiting staff were fantastic.

Took 2 friends for afternoon tea. I've been before and wasn't disappointed. Nice to have little savouries as well as finger sandwiches. Scones were delicious as were the cakes and we took the ones we didn't have room for home with us!! Choice of teas is good and we were offered coffee if we preferred. Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive.

Disappointing, booked afternoon tea for my 84yr old parents anniversary, the service was slow, took 15mins for tea to arrive, then another long wait for the food. The sandwiches were stale as if they had been prepared and sat out for a few hrs. The quiche & tiny jacket potatoe were stone cold. The scones were ok. Luckily enough I treat my parents to afternoon tea a few times a year, so we know what to expect, unfortunately the afternoon tea here was a let down and wasn't worth the money. Especially when you can travel a little further to Sopwell House in St Albans, or the Laura Ashley Hotel near Watford. And at both Sopwell House & Laura Ashley Hotel they top your tea up & give you extra sandwiches and cakes. I wouldn't recommend Trewin Farm afternoon tea. If they can't get this right I hate to think what lunch or dinner be like.
