Excellence service and tasty afternoon tea xxx
07 March 2018
An historic 500-year old coaching inn, Courtyard Brasserie at The George Hotel is a lively eatery that blends English dining tradition with exciting innovation. A tranquil outdoor terrace is a popular summer spot, and makes a perfect setting for afternoon tea.
Award-winning local suppliers are used in the Courtyard Brasserie menu, and include Assington Fruit Farm and Colchester Brewery. From Colchester Oyster Fisheries, diners can indulge in Mersea oysters, enjoyed with a glass of chilled champagne, and there is also fresh lobster. Other hearty favourites include succulent steaks from the grill, and on Sundays there are popular roasts with all the trimmings.
Beautifully presented desserts include chocolate tart, and creamy panna cotta with exotic fruits. Afternoon teas at Courtyard Brasserie Colchester treat diners to a range of freshly baked pastries, scones with jam and clotted cream, and delicate finger sandwiches.
Rich in history, and offering a comfortable setting for dining throughout the day, Courtyard Brasserie at The George Hotel is 6 minutes' walk from Colchester Rail Station.

we had to wait half an hour before pots of tea were brought out, a further half an hour until any food arrived and sadly it wasn't worth the wait. The sandwiches were dry and the scones were rock hard. It was not busy during our visit and there appeared to be plenty of staff so not acceptable.

They had no record of our booking through Book a Table. They had stopped all Book a Table reservations weeks ago. They were completely booked up.

This was our second time of visiting The Courtyard. It's such good value for money, food is lovely, unlimited prosecco means just that! but my favourite but is the staff they a fun and friendly and couldn't be more helpful. My niece has an allergy to butter and they offered alternatives without fuss - one waitress even remembered us from last time! Fab place would definitely recommend.
