Sister restaurant of highly acclaimed The Dairy, Counter Culture is a laidback snack bar overlooking Clapham Common. The best of the season’s produce is picked, fermented, cured and bottled, and served alongside meat, fish and vegetables to create delicious, simple snacks.

The Counter Culture menu is short but packed with flavour. Tuck into the likes of sour potato flat bread, with nduja, and cultured cream, beef tartare with bone marrow salad cream and caviar, or lamb kebab with pickled cabbage and a steamed bun. Sweet treats like strawberry and limoncello trifle round off the menu.

An intimate setting, wooden tables sit in view of the open kitchen. Large windows looking out onto the common add to the relaxed atmosphere.

Showcasing the dedication to produce that has seen The Dairy awarded such high praise, Counter Culture Clapham sits seconds from Clapham Common Tube Station.

Slightly disappointed in our visit this time. Counter Culture usually rates as one of our favourite restaurants and rarely fails to deliver a fantastic meal, but we were rather underwhelmed with the Southern menu, finding it a bit on the heavy side. The meat was fine but really fatty and the whole menu just lacked the balance and je ne sais quoi we usually expect from Counter Culture. We won't give up on you but look forward to the return of your usual verve!

    I didn’t enjoy the experience

Very disappointing. The first time we had dinner here, we thoroughly enjoyed the most quirkily constructed and delicious tapas. No more!! We heard that they change their menu regularly - good in theory... but Maryland tapas, really?! We were served really salty poor crackling and devilled eggs which did not feel very special, the sort of thing I would expect at the village fete. A big portion of pork with a giant rind of fat on it. We were advised the 'mac and cheese was gluten free' - this seemed a bit too good to be true, and in fact it turned out to be untrue. No great loss, as I would associate mac and cheese with something you might choose to serve up to fussy toddlers. There was only one desert on the menu and it was not gluten, so after that it was the bill with its 12% service charge.

The place is completely different from what I expected, the chefs very interesting and the food was very very good. Simple plates, beautiful and full of flavours. Cosy location and very alla-mano but that's part of the charm I think. Don't expect some fancy restaurant, this is all about the flavours. Good prices too.

Chicken was cold and had to be replaced. Dishes varied - chicken nothing special, but gurnard crudo fab!
I question the addition of a service charge when they simply pass dishes to you over a counter.

Lovely staff, food good but no fireworks - possibly a minor reflection on the Caribbean menu this month. Would definitely come back to see what's up next.

Thank you Counter Culture for a delicious meal. The service was amazing and it was such a great experience to sit at the bar and watch the chef work. The rum cocktails were another highlight. I cant wait for when they move onto America!
