Restaurant description

Comptoir Gascon offers the finest French bistro creations, strongly influenced by bold flavours from south west France. The Comptoir Gascon deli is a rustic food hall with specialist French produce, including fine preserves, fresh bread and foie gras.

A gourmet food lover’s delight in the Smithfield area, Comptoir Gascon Farringdon is a relaxed and cosy dining retreat, named a ‘wonderful French bistro’ by Fay Maschler. The refined wine cellar hosts a range of classy French bottles, while specials on the blackboard display an array of seasonal French gems.

Award-winning duck fat French fries, the famous piggy treats charcuterie selections or the indulgent duck and foie gras burgers are legendary favourites on the Comptoir Gascon menu. Other regional French creations include traditional cassoulet Toulousain, whole grilled sea bass, pan-fried cod and daily changing specials. Fantastic meat cuts including Chateaubriand for 2 and ribeye steak are cooked over the charcoal grill, whilst original lamb, fish, duck or beef burgers are offered at lunch.

On London's Charterhouse Street, Comptoir Gascon London epitomises regional French bistro-style cuisine. Farringdon Tube Station is just a 4-minute walk away.

Friendly staff and pleasant enough surroundings. Food was tasty and inexpensive-good venue to meet up with friends for a bite to eat.

Very nice kind of industrial chic with very high ceilings. Staff lovely and professional. The mini ravioli dish was gorgeous, as was the velouté. Piggy Treats was yummy but a bit too much salami. Deluxe burger was yummy. Partner found his duck breast overly salty. Friend's haddock dish bland and boring. I was very kindly made a dessert not on the menu as I'm not eating sugar . - but there was quite a lot of sugar in it! Ah well. We liked the place very much and it wasn't full of noisy people. We'll be back.

We went for a special Gascony dinner of four courses for £25, which was a bargain. The dishes were all delicious, but it was a little heavy on the meat. We had an entire roast guinea fowl to share between two, with a little pumpkin on the side. This followed a starter of a black pudding pie, which had lovely flaky pastry. Probably a quarter bird would have been enough, with more vegetables. The ambience and service were good. We had a glass of the cheapest red wine, which we both enjoyed.

Excellent, All round with a delicious innovative menu. I was particularly impressed with the gluten free options

Not so good as previously. Waitress said set menu advertised was not available and a dish on a la carte was also unavailable. Would give one more chance based on earlier meals.
