Restaurant description

Holding a Michelin Bib Gourmand, Comptoir Gascon offers the finest French bistro creations, strongly influenced by bold flavours from south west France. The Comptoir Gascon deli is a rustic food hall with specialist French produce, including fine preserves, fresh bread and foie gras.

A gourmet food lover’s delight in the Smithfield area, Comptoir Gascon Farringdon is a relaxed and cosy dining retreat, named a ‘wonderful French bistro’ by Fay Maschler. The refined wine cellar hosts a range of classy French bottles, while specials on the blackboard display an array of seasonal French gems.

Award-winning duck fat French fries, the famous piggy treats charcuterie selections or the indulgent duck and foie gras burgers are legendary favourites on the Comptoir Gascon menu. Other regional French creations include traditional cassoulet Toulousain, whole grilled sea bass, pan-fried cod and daily changing specials. Fantastic meat cuts including Chateaubriand for 2 and ribeye steak are cooked over the charcoal grill, whilst original lamb, fish, duck or beef burgers are offered at lunch.

On London's Charterhouse Street, Comptoir Gascon London epitomises regional French bistro-style cuisine. Farringdon Tube Station is just a 4-minute walk away.

Nice ambience, not too noisy, good welcome, tasty food. We went for the special menu which was good choice and good value. Don't understand why their perception of Service Charge should be 13.5%, at least it was optional.

The food was exceptionally good. We had eaten at Club Gascon before and wanted to try the Comptoir. It was definitely worth it! Great food and wine, with an excellent service.

Went for the bookatable offer. Egg starter was very good. Not offered bread. Onglet main was inedible. Not butchered properly so ended up with a 2 lumps of muscle tissue. Cheese dessert was a beautiful Burgundian cheese sitting in a pool of salad cream served with a cheese scone. The staff told me to return to order off the main menu as the quality of meat is better. My husbands chocolate fondant was the highlight of the meal.

Desert was very nice, but the rest of the courses were mediocre and small. Service was very bad, it took way too long for the food to come out and when it finally did I had to wait an extra 5 minutes for cutlery. If the restaurant was busy I would have understood. However it was near empty. The restaurant also Was quite cold with no noticeable heating

Small and cosy restaurant, ideal for lunch meetings. Both the beef and the duck were beautifully tender. Service was not spectacular but it was fine.
