Good atmosphere and great food

With an intimate speakeasy vibe, Circa 1924 is an independent seafood and steakhouse that also specialises in creative retro cocktails. 1920's style tweaks can be found throughout, including at the 'bootlegger' bar, while the building itself boasts a stunning exposed beam ceiling.
An inventive selection of the finest seafood and premium steak cuts take pride of place on the Circa 1924 menu. Maldon oysters make for the perfect starter, and come served either natural with red wine vinegar and shallots, or fried with a signature spicy relish. Further seafood treats include Brixham crab bisque, and moules marinière with warm bread. A selection of tender steaks are served, including the Devon-reared, 30-day aged Chateaubriand for 2 people. Steaks can be customised with a selection of homemade sauces, and complemented with sides like skin-on fries, and vegetable tempura.
Creative desserts include deconstructed lemon cheesecake and meringue, and dark chocolate truffle torte with raspberry coulis and sorbet. The Circa 1924 Exeter cocktail menu is truly special, offering unique mixes with exotic additions like Japanese black sugar.
A playful nod to a bygone era, Circa 1924 combines stylish tradition with exciting modern twists. It sits only a 7-minute walk from Exeter Central Rail Station.

Very friendly staff and wonderful food but I thought that having spent £32 per steak - we might have expected to have some vegetables included in the price and not just a few chips.

Started with a delicious mock tail in the upstairs bar then downstairs to our table. I ordered the fillet of beef which was delicious! My friends had steak which they were equally happy with. Finished with coffees and the petit fours which were divine and not too filling. Busy for a Tuesday night which added to the atmosphere. Service a little slow at times but staff friendly and polite.

Very busy restaurant so obviously enjoyed by many just wasn't our cup of tea. Food expensive for what you get. Had much better elsewhere for a lot less money.

Lovely looking restaurant but as for the food not very good for an a la cart menu. Very average food for an expensive price. The chips looked like oven chips taste like the oil needed changing. Was really disappointed.

The restaurant is fantastic! The staff members are noticeably professional as well as friendly ad caring. The recommendations made for certain dishes by the staff were particularly good and well thought-out.
