My wife and I dined at Cigalon yesterday for the first time responding to a special deal offer of a cocktail and three courses for £19.50. We didn’t like the cocktail much but that’s a matter of taste, although there was no alternative offered. I had the swordfish linguini with white wine and cream sauce and capers , which was very good, followed by the grilled neck of lamb, which was also very good. I elected to have the cheese and the only cheese on offer was goats cheese cru which was innmy opinion at least a week past it’s best. Again no alternative was offered. My wife had the duck shavings on endive with dressing. Very good but precious little duck. She then had the risotto which was excellent, followed by a blackberry fool which was ok. Good wine list (we had a carafe of white wine from the Loire) and very good coffee afterwards. The lot for the two of us was £74 including 13.5 % service. We will try it again.

Personal greeting. Excellent service throughout, faultless really! Nice room. Felt like we were in the South of France! Lovely, flavoursome, balanced attractive food. Booked a lunch offer which was remarkable value including an aperitif Provencal cocktail. Wine available by the glass or carafe which is great at lunchtime. Will definitely dine here again.

The food was delicious, but this was unfortunately undermined by poor service.

We went to the Moroccan themed food and matched wines evening. All of the dishes were well presented and tasty, and the lamb was cooked beautifully such that it melted in the mouth.

I have been to Cigalon several times before. We had one of their special wine dinners which are something to watch for. It is exceptional value (£49.50) as it includes matched wines which on this occasion were Moroccan from a vineyard near Volubilis (Domaine de la Zouina). The sommelier is charming and dealt well with a fellow diner's efforts to get more than her share of wine). Grilled octopus and pomegranate salad was tender with well balanced flavours. It was well matched with the Volubillia Gris (a blend of Caladoc Mourvedre and Marcelan -minimum skin contact). The next course of "baked brick sardine" was not a classic "Bric" but a boned sardine in a tube of filo pastry - pleasant but not enhanced by serving with the Volubillia rouge (cabernet sauvignon, syrah tempranillo )- that enhanced the strong oily fish character of the sardine which was a crash rather than a match. The main dish of spiced braised lamb with bulgur wheat (not sure why they didn't use couscous) and dried fruit (slightly gritty figs) was tender, flavoursome and a well judged quantity. That was well matched with the Epicuria rouge - 100% Syrah with 18 months in oak). For some reason it was thought that a dry Chardonnay (Epicuria - 6 months in oak) would enhance a dessert of peaches, cinnamon ice cream (perfect) and argan oil. It didn't - but I drank the wine separately with pleasure. Good coffee. A very fine experience - we have already booked for the next wine dinner in August.

Excellent food and service and exceptional value for money in a beautiful light-filled setting. Went for a lunch with friends who all commented on how much they enjoyed the delicious food in the fixed price lunch menu. Highly recommended!

Nice location, good ambiance, good food. Mackerel starter delightful. Would only say that the portion size on the 'offer' menu were a little small.
