We had an enjoyable meal but I felt the smoked orange mousse dessert was too creamy and cloying. I loved the hake and my husband especially enjoyed the spotted dick dessert. The service was good and our waitress was friendly.

Housed in the Chichester Festival Theatre, Minerva Bar & Grill serves modern British cuisine using seasonal, local produce. The Minerva Lounge and Brasserie offer drinks and light bites for pre and post-performance refreshment.

Start with Brighton blue cheese, fig, radicchio, and chicory salad with hazelnut dressing, or smoked mackerel mousse with horseradish crème fraiche and focaccia thins. Mains on the Minerva menu include slow-cooked shoulder of pork with mustard sauce, and Sussex beetroot tatin with goats’ cheese. Lighter options include a Mediterranean meze sharing platter, quiche of the day and a British cheese board.

Desserts at The Minerva Bar & Grill also feature local produce and include Sussex summer berry mess and steamed vanilla sponge with sticky bourbon sauce. Local beers and an extensive drinks list including English sparkling wine are also available.

Open to theatregoers and the general public alike, The Minerva at Chichester Festival Theatre is a short walk from the city centre and a 7-minute drive from Chichester Train Station.

Sorry to say that service was so slow that we had no time for dessert.

The service from staff was very good, unfortunately I cannot say the same about the food. The starter of salmon was good, but the mains and desert were poor. My wife had lamb with roasted vegetables that were so tiny and overcooked that she could not tell what they were. I had a trio of sausages one of which was very good but the other two were awful. For desert we had spotted dick, made as individual blobs which were dry and overdone. The bay leaf custard(why mess about with custard) that came with it was thin and insufficient. Overall not worth the money.

Excellent service but we were rather disappointed with the food. The soup did not come with bread. The main course (lamb shoulder) was lukewarm and lacked depth of flavour. I have eaten lunch at the Brasserie before a number of matinee performances this year and generally the standard has been better than we experienced for this dinner experience. On this occasion I would not recommend it to others.

I decided to book tables at The Brasserie for my shows during the current season after avoiding it for several years. My concern had been about the uncomfortably close positioning of the tables. Unfortunately, I did not find that this had changed - if anything, they are even closer together than before.

I booked a table at the Brasserie restaurant prior to going to the theatre for my friends 60th birthday. The food was reasonably priced and very good. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Archie was exceptional and took the time to go through the Gin menu with us, bringing a bit of fun and making it a very special evening for my friend. I have always avoided gin in the past because of the smell, I am now a converted Gin lover. Thank you Archie.

Disappointing. My husbands meal was served several minutes after the rest of ours, and only after we had queried where it was the next door table had a similar experience two dishes being served before ours and two dishes even after my husband's. My mother in law said hers was cold, although did, and my husband and I were both disappointed by our main courses. It is shame because it is so close the the Theatre which we take my mother to fairly often but we will not be back.

Lunch before the matinee. Food very good and good service by friendly staff. Tables too close together.

We would never book the Minerva Brasserie again. Our starter was Salmon Rillette which was straight from the fridge and too cold to taste. It looked about 2 days old.
One main dish was the Mixed Butchers Sausage Trio. They seemed to be all the same. Good strong flavour but the skins were thick and tough. The other main dish was the Hake with beetroot bubble and squeak. The fish was well cooked but the dish lacked seasoning. Both mains arrived tepid - not nearly hot enough. Our dessert was described as Clementine mousse with white chocolate jelly. The ‘mousse’ tasted like just thickly whipped cream - no clementine flavour at all and very sickly rich. The dot of clementine jus was too small to taste. The ‘jelly’ had no flavour.
