lovely meal, a little pricey and disappointed the pate didn't come with bread or toast and had to order bread to go with the pate. Staff very good and helpful

Housed in the Chichester Festival Theatre, Minerva Bar & Grill serves modern British cuisine using seasonal, local produce. The Minerva Lounge and Brasserie offer drinks and light bites for pre and post-performance refreshment.
Start with Brighton blue cheese, fig, radicchio, and chicory salad with hazelnut dressing, or smoked mackerel mousse with horseradish crème fraiche and focaccia thins. Mains on the Minerva menu include slow-cooked shoulder of pork with mustard sauce, and Sussex beetroot tatin with goats’ cheese. Lighter options include a Mediterranean meze sharing platter, quiche of the day and a British cheese board.
Desserts at The Minerva Bar & Grill also feature local produce and include Sussex summer berry mess and steamed vanilla sponge with sticky bourbon sauce. Local beers and an extensive drinks list including English sparkling wine are also available.
Open to theatregoers and the general public alike, The Minerva at Chichester Festival Theatre is a short walk from the city centre and a 7-minute drive from Chichester Train Station.

The staff were excellent. bread with funny coloured butter very tasty.soup good. prawns on skewers. what prawns? very dry had to tug off skewer. pate was o.k. hake was o.k but the rest on the plate was tasteless. beef needed seasoning, as did most of the food. once again pork needed seasoning, rest of the plate was not good. actual pork o.k but the rest not good.
Coffee was thin and tasteless - could have been tea. For the 10 of us this was an unsatisfactory dining experience.

Menu choice was good and all the courses tasted good. However one of the starters was pate but no bread or crackers were included. BRead was available as a separate item, however the portion of this was far in excess of what was required. I think it cost £3.50 extra. It was a very good bread selection but far too much of it, and therefore far more than was required to accompany a starter.

Thought we had booked for Upstairs Restaurant as last year. However, Delighted to be seated Downstairs as the whole experience was wonderful. The service was friendly, efficient & staff were cheerful & appeared interested in customers food choices. Loved the menu this year - the slow braised oxtail beef & the vegetarian curry were delicious & we both thought the coconut dessert with summer squash couii, garnished with tiny summer flowers & herbs, was charming (& delicious!). As a special meal, prior to the fantastic show, we had an evening to remember. Thank you. We will be back. P.S. Jug of cucumber infused iced water was such a welcome touch on a very, very, hot evening!

Nice to be seated by window and staff pleasant and obliging.
"Spiced " prawn skewers were tasteless - were they spiced at all - though the carrot dressing was good . Were they mashed to save costs and downsize the portion ? 2 ,or better 3 , normal size shell on prawns well spiced would have been infinitely preferable , hardly Thai heat . The " compressed melon " was a cubed piece of melon with an unremarkable tomato salad - both very disappointing starters. Pork was tender but tasteless and too mean a portion, particularly for my guest , an albeit elderly gentleman with a small appetite, and the curry was bland and too conservatively flavoured. Desserts were again pretty to look at but lacking in flavour . Pity , as the menu looked interesting promised much , delivered little , very little in fact! The food all had eye appeal but failed to deliver on flavour and taste At our age we welcome small portions but these were ridiculous , in fact when we returned home all three of us were pleased to have a cheese sandwich, some excellent cheese and biscuits , and a slice of chicken and ham raised water crust pie respectively Altogether a dissonting experience all round saved only by an excellent press night.
If it's a question of coatings why not offer more mundane fare flavoured well and marginally smaller portions ? Keep it simple and do it well and generously or be creative and charge more ?

We have eaten in the upstairs restaurant on 3 occasions this season and it is perfect for a pre-show supper. The sharing plates are good and Monday's fishcakes were very tasty. I think the format is now just right.

We frequently visit this restaurant for pre-show dinner. This time the service was less good than usual, even though the restaurant was not as full as it often is. Serving staff were pleasant but seemed inexperienced and lacking in the wider range of skills in dealing with customers. We had a booking for 6 and 3 arrived slightly early. Serving staff seemed thrown by our wish to wait for the rest of the party to arrive and, when they did, were very impatient for us to order, so little time for choosing from the menu. Our starters and main courses were served quickly but we had a long wait for our desserts, which arrived long after the coffee and only when we chased the staff. Food was mostly pleasant and attractively presented, although the fish (hake) was rather overcooked and dry. The pork and beef dishes were much more enjoyable. Overall a less enjoyable visit than usual.

I have always loved having dinner here before a show but last night the service was VERY slow. My friend didn't have time for her dessert. The food was interesting and beautifully presented but the hake dish could benefit from a little more sauce.

The staff are very helpful, but the food is very average.
