Housed in the Chichester Festival Theatre, Minerva Bar & Grill serves modern British cuisine using seasonal, local produce. The Minerva Lounge and Brasserie offer drinks and light bites for pre and post-performance refreshment.

Start with Brighton blue cheese, fig, radicchio, and chicory salad with hazelnut dressing, or smoked mackerel mousse with horseradish crème fraiche and focaccia thins. Mains on the Minerva menu include slow-cooked shoulder of pork with mustard sauce, and Sussex beetroot tatin with goats’ cheese. Lighter options include a Mediterranean meze sharing platter, quiche of the day and a British cheese board.

Desserts at The Minerva Bar & Grill also feature local produce and include Sussex summer berry mess and steamed vanilla sponge with sticky bourbon sauce. Local beers and an extensive drinks list including English sparkling wine are also available.

Open to theatregoers and the general public alike, The Minerva at Chichester Festival Theatre is a short walk from the city centre and a 7-minute drive from Chichester Train Station.

Overpriced, veg extra, assumed tip, sent to convenient table, not the best, served by 5 different people etc etc.

Mediocre at best. Overpriced. Poor value.

Disappointing. The quality of the food is excellent. However the menu is too limited. More choice should be offered for each course. Also. when you sit down to eat soon after 5.30pm, there is no need to rush service as quickly as when you arrive at 6.30pm. Also with a half full restaurant, why not space the pre-booked customers around the restaurant rather than put them next to each other. There are better choices nearby.

Mother ordered the brisket, she did not enjoy it as it was extremely dry and tasteless, we complaind to the young waitress who stated "it is hard to cater for 200 people who want to eat at the same time" we arrived at 5.30 pm and first dinners of the evening.. the table next to us a group of 4 also complained of the Brisket and also the table the other side of us. No applogie or amendments to the bill. Will nor be eating here again. Shame as enjoyed the theatre.

The service at the Minerva was excellent, surroundings very good, unbeatable location for the theatre. Food; starters okay although rather on the small size, more like an ‘amuse bouche’. The main menu was limited to three choices and so everything should have been perfectly cooked, but the brisket that we chose was very dry and the accompanying vegetables did nothing to lift the dish. The portion size was rather mean and we were advised to order a ‘side’ dish of vegetables at extra cost - which, given that the restaurant prices are not cheap to start with, is rather outrageous having to pay extra to get a decent sized meal. We declined dessert as the choice was uninspiring. Coffee was nice. We were asked to give feedback on the night and we mentioned the dry brisket, we were told that others had made the same observation, but that the menu was ‘still being developed’ a response that did nothing to endear me to the establishment. The price for a two course meal for myself and wife including a couple of G&Ts came to nearly seventy pounds including the service charge which is automatically added in to the bill (why do restaurants think that is acceptable?). The Minerva is not good value. My advice is if you are going to the theatre at Chichester eat at one of the several other better restaurants within easy walking distance and you will get more choice, and an overall better meal at a more reasonable price.

The restaurant was far from full with approx 19 diners only. We wondered why when there was a popular show at the Festival Theatre. Before when eating here in the summer the place was packed. We soon discovered the food was not nearly as good as it had been on our summer lunch visits. We were disappointed and will think twice before visiting to eat here again. The starters were tiny with only one small spring roll - the smoked mackerel had not been skinned. The mains did not appear freshly cooked and we thought the food had been reheated. The beef was not tender but rather tough and fibrous. The vegetables were watery and had not been strained properly. The puddings were passable but we were puzzled by the consistency of the panna cotta which was more like a plum mousse.Overall the cooking showed no flair but the service was good and attentive. The standard of food was well below expectations and the cost excessive for such a disappointing three course set menu.

Friendly service and very speedy but the menu could do with a bit more variation. We eat there often and it is nearly always the same. Also the mashed potato under the rarebit haddock was lukewarm but we didn't want to complain at the time. Quite pricey for what you get too. I wouldn't eat there again except for the convenience of it!
