Food was good and the venue was great, however it was let down by very poor service from the waiters. The place was half empty and we still had to chase them for menus, drinks and the bill. The bill needed to be changed as well as additional items added in error. Also I can’t stand that they clear the table and lean over you to collect plates when some people are still eating... very rude! Doubt I’ll come back again.

Just a 5 minute walk from Barbican tube station. The restaurant is in the basement of Malmaison hotel.
We were there on a Tuesday night week leading up to Xmas and wasn't that busy, you need to go down some stairs and then your in the small bar area, turn to the right for the restaurant it's not massive we were a party of 6 women we had a table in an alcove so we were set back a little which was great felt like private dining and as a small group we can get noisy when chatting n laughing so felt we didn't disturb other diners.
Staff were friendly and if we asked for something it was no trouble
We had booked a star deal so had a set 2 or 3 course menu
Good selection to choose from
Nicely presented food not too much nor miniature portions majority chose the fish cakes for main which I can only describe as Eggs Benedict but with fish looked lovely,
We were treated to an extra desert as I couldn't decide between Sticky Toffee Pudding and Creme Brûlée so we got the Creme Brûlée to share between the 6 of us and it was heaven!
A lovely surprise
We all agreed we would visit again

A bit of hidden gem and being located where it is, not too busy or bustling on a Sunday afternoon, which is just as well, as when we arrived they had no details of our booking, but luckily they were able to accommodate us. Very cosy and discrete with some fabulous jazz funk in the background. We both started with the Eggs Benedict which was delicious, followed by a wander over the to the buffet table and then a main course; lamb for my friend and the beef stragonoff for me. Service was at times a little patchy, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. The unlimited brunch and free flowing prosecco was an excellent offer.

Had an amazing dinner yesterday!
My steak was lovely and tasty as the wine and cocktails!
The service was incredible. The waitress was so lovely, always with a smile and passion.

Rubbish! No atmosphere as only 4 tables had people there, so basically empty on a Saturday night. Even then, they couldn't get the service right... Forgot our drinks, forgot our starters, basically heard 'sorry' 3 or 4 times from the staff who left us abandoned up in the corner. As for the cocktail bar, they served up a pina colada which was basically congealed milk and didn't have anything for a lychee martini.
No wonder the place is empty!

The markup on food compared with other days at this restaurant was about 200%, thanks to the "normal" menus being advertised. Thanks for letting me know.
The meal is advertised at £79.00 per person but inwas lumbered with a service charge of £20.00 at the end of the meal (for two people). This should be included in the cost or, at the very least, written in small print near the price so that I, as a consumer, am aware that the meal cost is actually £89 (£79 + service charge of 12.5%).
Other than that, the service was polite and the staff were sincere.
The food was not worth the money. I've had better tasting meals out of a military ration pack. Portion sizes werent enough to fill a adolescent, we were expected to share 4 sprouts and two roast potatoes with one another. I weigh 11 stone, not a big ask to fill me up.
Very loud Christmas music, too loud. Several customers complained.
All in all the experience was a very disappointing. Would not recommend.

Not overly attentive and pleasant staff from arrival to departure. The meal was very good and I have had a few on Christmas day. The surroundings were welcoming and comfy and we could take our time, not like some places that give you a 2 hour slot to eat & leave! Service charge was a little high but it's to be expected for Christmas day. Apart from that the whole thing was enjoyable and would definitely come back again.

We started with two very good cocktails.
Then the chateaubriand and fries which were excellent. Finished with sharing the huge chocolate gateau with ice cream which again was excellent. They even give you a portion to take home.
We had a bottle of Malbec included in the price which made it excellent value
Although located away from theatre land well worth a visit
