Just off Edinburgh’s vibrant city streets can be found AA Rosette-winning bistro, Shackletons Bar and Brasserie . Absorb any Scottish sunshine on the popular sundeck or enjoy the post-dinner comfort of the cosy lounge.

The Shackletons menu showcases a tender pan fried ‘steak’ of Borders leg of lamb, rosemary polenta with aubergine caponata & red wine jus, and a festive sautéed red rooster potato gnocchi, seasonal vegetables, pesto & parmesan. Completing this delectable menu is an exquisite dessert choice including a luxurious dark chocolate fondant finished with chilli ice cream.

A rich interior of dark wood, candles, and a classic fireplace oozes the snug yet stylish vibe of Shackletons Restaurant in the Channings Hotel. A carefully selected wine list allows for a mixture of individual tastes reflecting the welcoming atmosphere.

I was so disappointed! The food was fine and service was excellent. However, a table was not ready for us even though we had booked. The Brasserie itself was empty and in darkness and we were offered the bar area. To be fair when I said I hadn't intended eating in a bar I was offered the Brasserie but we would have been the only people in a cold, empty room. I did not think I was booking a table in a bar in which there was no table prepared for us and a television on the wall was on. They then had to push 2 tables together and lay them in an uninspiring area of the bar. Really misleading to call it a Brasserie when that was not on offer even on a Saturday night. By then we were too late to get a table in another restaurant which, quite frankly, would have been our preference.

Food was fabulous and very good value. The restaurant appearance however could be improved, with the addition of tablecloths , this would make it more if a restaurant and less of a bar.

The food and service were excellent. The menu was good and reasonably priced. The outside area looks like it could be lovely as we get into sunny days. I also think the kids' menu looks very good.

We had a lovely afternoon tea on Mothers Day! The tables were set beautifully, great choice of teas, lovely cakes and sandwiches, and good service. We really enjoyed it.

A lovely warm welcome from the staff who couldn't be helpful enough. My husband enjoyed a burger with blue cheese while I tucked into a tasty sirloin. Having several food allergies it's always worrying eating out, but sending a message via the booking service returned the response that they would do their best to accommodate me and they did. Will definitely be going back.

Considering we were the only occupied table for lunch in the restaurant, and a very quiet bar, it took forever between courses.
Food boring and average to below average excerpt for chocolate dessert.
Waitress was very pleasant and good and we enjoyed having the area to ourselves.
    Definitely not value for money.

Small hotel restaurant. Nicely furnished & set out. Disappointed with the bar & ambience- not in keeping with rest of hotel.
