Secluded behind the Puerta del Sol in Calle Tetuan and famous for being the birthplace of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) in 1879, this typical Madrid bar has extended a traditional welcome to guests since 1860. As you step inside, there is a sense that very little has changed over the years. The dark wood interior and typically Spanish-style decor echo this and add to the bar's charming atmosphere. Located just off the bustling shopping street of Preciados, it has also become famous for its fish specialities, such as delicious deep-fried cod fritters in batter along with fresh draught beer. You are invited to enjoy your drinks and tapas standing up at the bar amongst the good-humoured locals doing the same, or you can sit down to have a full meal in the restaurant's traditional dining room, served by the swift waiting staff.
