Perched on the picturesque Torquay coastline, Cary Arms is a charming rustic English countryside pub and hotel. Seconds from the beach, this gastropub serves a selection of luxurious dishes made with seasonal ingredients, with a focus on fresh seafood caught in the sparking blue waters right outside.
Gourmet British and European flavours feature on the Cary Arms menu, starting off with seafood delicacies like the half pint of shell-on prawns, served with tomato salsa and dill mayonnaise. Hearty home-style favourites include chicken, leek and mushroom pie with dauphinoise potatoes, seasonal vegetables and red wine jus, and succulent tastes from the grill can be found in the fillet of west country beef with onion rings, mushrooms, chips, bacon and peppercorn jus.
Luxurious desserts at Cary Arms in Torquay include treats such as lemon and thyme drizzle cake with lemon curd and clotted cream, as well as inventive creations like coconut cream pudding with mango and chilli salsa and passionfruit sorbet. There is a fine whisky selection with single malts from across Scotland, and a wine list filled with expertly selected vintages.
A stunning coastal setting for gourmet recipes, Cary Arms is housed in the same building as a luxury spa. Central Torquay is just a 9-minute drive away.

Beautiful unique setting with stunning views. Pretty restaurant, fabulous private alcove with table for two overlooking the bay. Creatively presented roast dinner - really tasty and very good portion sizes. Staff very friendly, helpful and professional. Covid-compliance very evident and reassuring. Live piano music was delightful (very accomplished pianist) although it was a little loud - we were sitting at the closest table. Overall, a fabulous start to a birthday weekend!

Went by trip advisor ratings to book this restaurant for lunch and unfortunately we left disappointed. When we arrived we were shown to a table and given menus, we had then to chase the waiters to ask what soup and fish of the day was. We ordered our starters and mains along with drinks, unfortunately, they were out of stock of one of wines we’d ordered. Had starters and mains which were delicious. It now starts to go wrong. Ordered dessert and coffee, waiter came back to say one of the desserts not available? Ordered alternative. 5 mins later he back to say that they didn’t have the alternative either. Desserts arrived. Sticky toffee pudding missing the toffee sauce but was ok, cheeseboard plentiful, however, one of the cheeses didn't taste right and on inspection was slightly mouldy. Coffee didn’t arrive and we had to chase. After finishing coffee we waited & waited and had to go ask for the bill. When the bill arrived it was handed over by a girl with a bit of an attitude “go pay at the bar!” No smile or pleasantries. Went to the bar to pay and the girl who took our payment was pleasant enough but not one person asked if we’d enjoyed our meal. At this point I raised the concern about the cheese and she apologised and refunded the amount off our bill. We left very disappointed after what started out to be such a promising meal. The majority of staff were very pleasant but needed to be more attentive and also spent lots of time messing with the neck cowls they were using as masks as they were too big and dropped every time they spoke. Unfortunately won't rush back.
