Established on the site of one of the town’s oldest restaurants, Cambridge Mostyn is a breath of fresh air in Llandudno thanks to its innovative fusion of Welsh and South African cuisine. Awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for two years running, it might be the only restaurant where you can follow up Welsh pâté with a crocodile steak.

The revamped Cambridge Mostyn evening menu has proven a hit with visitors to the region, and is a treasure trove of unexpected specialities (monkey gland sauce anyone?). Diners can enjoy classic Welsh staples like St David’s chicken (wrapped in bacon with a cream leek and mustard sauce), or embark on one of the 'great meal adventures' and sample exotic meats and game in dishes like the juicy ostrich fillet steak, tender kangaroo rogan josh, or succulent llama chipotle chilli burgers.

An extensive wine list is also available at Cambridge Mostyn restaurant in Llandudno, to go along with its delectable range of ice creams and liqueurs. The eclectic selection of food and drink is matched only by the diverse décor, which features influences from the savannah to the valleys.

Offering cuisines both local and exotic on the Welsh coast, Cambridge Mostyn is just an 8-minute walk from Llandudno Rail Station.

On arrival the staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome without over doing it. The restaurant had a nice ambience; the decor was vibrant and the music was adding to the occasion, playing softly in the background.
The food was excellent. We wanted something different and enjoyed: venison, mufflan, chicken liver Piti peri, crocodile, ostrich burgers, bison, kangaroo chilli con carne and 6 South African desserts. This was washed down with a carafe of house wine. Adding to the experience the chef came out after each course and as it was a blind eating affair he spent time explaining what we had eaten and even gave us the value of the protein and calories, compared to a typical steak and meat we would normally eat.
We thoroughly enjoyed the night and the effort put in by the staff.

Unfortunately this dining experience did not live up to our eager anticipation having picked out the restaurant based on a somewhat different and interesting menus choice. While in fairness my starter the Mozambique livers was delicious the same could not have been said of the other dishes which were presented to myself and my wife My main course of the Chowder was OK although not spectacular but the food which my wife received was extremely disappointing. After a very sparse starter of the tempura prawns she was looking forward to her main meal and ordered the ostrich in honey and mustard with sweet potatoes. What actually arrived was a very small half full pot similar to a small tagine. On enquiring as to where the sweet potatoes were she was advised that they were in this pot - a microscope would have struggled to see them To make matters worse the small amount of meat and sauce in this pot had been left too long into the oven and was stuck to the sides leaving very little to actually eat. What was even more amazing was that when my wife asked to speak to the Manager or even the Chef she was advised that they had both already left for the evening When you consider this was Saturday night around 9.15.p.m. it seemed rather odd. On the positive side the staff that were left to deal with this situation were extremely apologetic and did their best to resolve what they could including offering a free dessert and not charging for my wife's main course. Although this gesture was appreciated we would much rather have enjoyed and paid for good food which on this occasion was sadly not the case.
