With an tribal Indian mural as its centrepiece, Calcutta Club in Cambridge features a contemporary open theatre kitchen, with chefs preparing the cuisine live before your eyes. Start your meal with one, or some, of the appetisers. These tantalising tasters of Indian cuisine, from the Papdi Chat to the Samosas, are all freshly prepared and bursting with flavour. Also available as a starter, or as a main course, is the selection of kebab and grill dishes. Dishes such as the Caribbean Fish Kebabs (with swordfish steak cuts) and the Tandoori Chicken are marinated in exotic spices and herbs, before being char-grilled to perfection in the authentic clay tandoor.

Traditional Thali platters are also available in a variety of combinations, and you can also enjoy a delicious Dosawala; a South Indian wrap and a rare speciality in the UK. As you would expect, there is also a fantastic choice of curries to enjoy, all inspired by regional cuisines as well as Calcutta Club's own unique family recipes, handed down through generations.

This place is a bit more expensive than the other Mill Road curry houses, but it's definitely worth the extra. It's set in what used to be the Locomotive pub, so I was expecting cheap and cheerful (the neon sign outside also implied this), but actually it's pretty classy and modern inside. The food is amazing. We both had a thali - a selection of various Indian dishes and all were really flavoursome (though slightly more curry would have been appreciated!).
