In the walled city of York, Café Rouge serves French cuisine within a glorious building featuring glass frontage and a vibrant red colour scheme. York Minister is just around the corner from Café Rouge.
As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.
In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.
Café Rouge – York allows diners to take in the atmosphere of York's side streets with al fresco dining, whist enjoying an affordable French dish.

Staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful and the service was very efficient but nicely relaxed. Bavette steak was cooked to perfection.

As December is a particularly busy time of year the restaurant was busy but we were seated straight away. Service was prompt but without feeling hurried. The food was good and the price range was reasonable. My disappointment was that my choice of dessert was not available. Perhaps this should have been anticipated during this busy season.

My partner could not decide what to have from the menu and the waitress showed great patience with him which added to the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and made our dining experience so enjoyable and special. The food was delicious and served quickly. The wine was a little too enjoyable!!
