Restaurant description

A stone's throw from both the Lyceum and Aldwych theatres, Café Rouge Wellington Street serves authentic French food in a prime London location.

Part of the UK-wide group of Café Rouge restaurants, a range of traditional French dishes such as steak frites, confit duck and beef bourgignon are on offer. Amongst the tempting lighter bites, try a tasty croque monsieur, breaded camembert with cranberry and redcurrant sauce, or a classic caesar salad. A good selection of French wines, many from lesser known producers, is on hand to accompany the dishes.

Breakfast at Café Rouge is also a classically French affair. Offering croissants, pain au chocolat and baguettes, as well as hot chocolate, tea and an array of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

A popular choice for pre or post-theatre dining, Covent Garden Café Rouge also boasts outdoor seating which provides the perfect spot to watch the world go by.

Booking was easy. I had Steak and fries - very nice. My friend had a starter of avacardo and crab looked delicious which he said it was. The service was good too very nice man. When in London would go there again.

We really like Cafe Rouge - it's reasonably priced and reliable. But the service was really poor on Sunday when we went. Took ages to get a drink and I had to go to the bar to ask them to take the order.

Very nice staff , but poor service, unattentive, needing constant reminders. Food was poor - like it had been cooked much earlier in the day and was perhaps on a hot plate. This was the Xmas 5 course meal. So so disappointing and not worth the money. Would never eat here again.

Food choices were good. I felt rushed to order my next course as the customer turn over was quick and kept asking the waiter 'to give us 5 minutes' but the staff were friendly. Restaurant was too hot to the point of being uncomfortable and people were fanning themselves with menus before the A/C was turned on. we had already made the decision to leave before that and enjoyed coffee elsewhere.

The food was good - I had a croque Madame and my partner had a burger. Our service could have been better. The staff weren’t very attentive and they kept forgetting drinks etc. As they were hosting a Christmas party, it was also very loud which wasn’t the nicest atmosphere for our meal.
