Housed in the former headquarters of Samuel Ryder, Café Rouge St. Albans has a wonderful rustic feel that complements the Art Deco building. Serving a delicious range of French dishes, Café Rouge boasts a magnificent glass ceiling.
As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.
In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.
Just around the corner from St. Albans Cathedral, Café Rouge French restaurant is a 6-minute walk from St. Albans Abbey Rail Station.

Two of us enjoyed a very good early evening mid week dinner. Very pleasant surroundings, good choice of wine/beers and menu choices to suit all tastes. Service was welcoming, friendly and prompt. Would recommend the camembert starter and steak frites main. Will definitely visit again soon.

We went for the £12.95 Set Menu - we both enjoyed the starters and main course. The service was excellent and everything was served hot. The downside was the evening had turned cold and the restaurant was cold. One other comment we both thought the wine was reasonably priced but for a 330 ml bottle of Stella Artois it was £4.85 ??? I would like to know why was this so expensive. On rating I have put two stars for ambience and this was due to restaurant being cold and having to put a coat on to keep warm. Knew there was no point in mentioning to waitress as the whole restaurant was the same. The set menu was good value the drinks definitely too expensive.
Star Deal - 2 courses £14.95 or 3 courses £18.95 per person
