Situated on the High Street of this historic city, Café Rouge - Salisbury serves delicious French bistro-style cuisine in a cosy and welcoming ambience. The restaurant is close to the river, and just beside Old George Mall.
As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.
In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.
Café Rouge - Salisbury is a 10-minute walk from Salisbury Rail Station.

Food poor, service poor. Apart from the fact that restaurant was clean there was nothing to recommend it.

Nice food and atmosphere. We had the set menu which was good value and excellent selection. Not having been to a Cafe rouge for a while the experience felt much more modern and that menus had been updated to keep with the times and demands of clientele. A good move and will be back!

Slightly disappointed - lunch on Monday, arrived to be told that two items (mushroom crepes and coq au vin) were off the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine - that was out of stock so had to choose another. Ordered confit of duck which had a choice of sauce, cherry or orange. Needless-to-say no orange sauce, only cherry. Fortunately we didn't want a desert. Food was fine, as was the service.

Disappointing the sauce for the duck wasn't even a table spoon full only 1 veg and the chicken dish with leeks was very thin and bland definitely not worth the money although the waiter was lovely

Food was not value for money - especially children's menu. About 10 peas and waiter wanted to charge us extra when I asked for more!

Loved our visit to Cafe Rouge in Salisbury.
Our waiter was James- lovely guy, very efficient and friendly, best of all he smiled alot and genuinely appeared to enjoy interacting with the customers. Service was excellent and nothing was a problem.
Food was wonderful - very tasty and reasonably priced.
Downside - the ladies toilets.
Spillage, toilet roll and and bizarrely sweets, on the floors in two of the cubicles my friend and I went into.
The stairs to get to the loo's are narrow and steep.
Would throughly recommend this restaurant- but not their conveniences. -

I have eaten in Café Rouges for many years and this was the first bad experience I have had. We were a big group, a family of nine meeting together for a special occasion. I chose Café Rouge because it has always been so reliable. First impressions were good: the décor was very cheery and welcoming, up to Café Rouge's usual high standards, the table was nicely laid with lemon in the water glasses and the waiter was very attentive and friendly. But things went downhill soon after! At least one of the children's dishes was lukewarm and had to be sent back; this was followed by two further dishes (mussels and a French tart) that appeared to be undercooked and also had to be sent back. The child's macaroni cheese reappeared suitably warmed but the mussels' customer was left with no food (and no further explanation). The recooked tart was eventually brought back - but well after everyone else had finished eating. I appreciate that it was a very busy lunchtime and the staff seemed stressed and overwhelmed by their workload but the management should ensure that there is sufficient manpower for the number of customers and that the food is of a sufficiently high and consistent quality. Our waiter did knock off the price of the undercooked dishes and made further concessions, and we feel that overall he did his best under the circumstances. But it did leave a bad taste in my mouth and I will, sadly, hesitate to use a Café Rouge again.
