Restaurant description

Overlooking the Lowry, Café Rouge Salford Quays serves good value French cuisine in a prime Manchester location. With a terrace al fresco dining area, Café Rouge’s cosy interior complete with red banquettes has an authentic French atmosphere.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

A good choice for pre or post-theatre dining, Café Rouge Salford Quays offers affordable French cuisine in relaxed surroundings.

Overall the food was good but it was the detail that let them down. The camonbert starter had far too little fruit sauce. The pulled pork burger lacked impact and the Eton mess had no raspberries or coulis. Luckily the service was incredible and saved the meal experience.

Food was great, the atmosphere was good and the waitress was lovely and worked extremely hard, unfortunately my daughter's food did not come at the same time as ours, we decided to start which did spoil the meal especially because it was her birthday, she eventually got her meal after we had eaten ours. If that hadn't have happened I would recommend this restaurant but as the bill came to 97.00 and the daughter whose birthday it was did not eat with us then we would not return.

We had a well presented, cooked and served meal. The modules were delicious and other dishes equally so.

All 4 of us enjoyed our meal. Service was very good. Only one tiny complaint that the fillet steak even though it was perfectly cooked "medium" the outside actually tasted burnt as though the grill hadn't been cleaned. And for £22 you expect it to be better than that. But all the other meals including starters and desserts were spot on.

Menu selection on the Spring menu at 6pm was sold out causing the options to be changed resulting also in the price we had planed for our eating experience . This situation was disappointing creating the mackrel option to be changed to a crab option which was dearer but delicious . The second main course choice we again had to change and again disappointing and question why at such an early stage and time in the evening question was this a ploy to get you in but once at the table up the meal spend per head ? Like wise the dessert was not available but again another choice was offered , my budget for the meal was double but faced with the option to please my partner I could hardly get up and go ?? The bill was added up incorrectly is glass of wine was converted to a bottle and whilst the host looked at the bill and was aware it was a glass ! I had to point the £18.00 plus error out. Waiting time was longer than expected and do not exempt the reply given of the theatre causing the delay ! If this is know why book in so many covers at 6pm. Portions were reasonable and the food served was well presented and tasty . Overall I felt not value for the £90 for two people !!
