In the centre of Gunwharf Quays and surrounded by shops, Café Rouge Portsmouth serves traditional French cuisine in a light and spacious dining room.
As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.
In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.
With ample seats and a relaxed ambience, the Café Rouge Portsmouth menu is affordable and caters for all French tastes.

Everything very rushed. 90 seconds from ordering to getting first course. Main dish arrived almost as soon as the starter plates were cleared away. We felt as though footfall was more important than customer experience. Starters were good, mackerel and a mushroom volevant, but mussels mains were very disappointing; small, chewy and flavourless. Waitress however was friendly and efficient.

Service good but the food was poor. Moules were so dried up they were almost non existent and lukewarm warm to cold. My duck was so dried up I could hardly get it off the bone. We complained as we left half of our meal and were just offered a glass of wine. Shame as this was supposed to be a birthday treat.

The food is always good and the choices suit us all even the fussy eaters. Tables are close together but never feel crowded.
