Restaurant description

Fashionable Holborn is home to the Café Rouge Kingsway, serving classic French cuisine just a short walk from Drury Lane Theatreland and Covent Garden.

Part of the UK-wide Café Rouge restaurant chain, this branch offers their signature range of French dishes including mussels, beef bourguignon, poulet Breton and steak frites, as well as lighter dishes. For lunch and dinner (on certain days) the set menus are also excellent value. There is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With pain au chocolat, croissants, baguettes and omelettes, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

For a pre-theatre meal or simply a relaxing time with friends and family, Holborn Café Rouge is a popular choice.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

Very bad. Food was not properly cooked and we paid a lot. This restaurant is more of a tourist trap

We were treated well on arrival & seated quickly. But we had a problem with the selection of food as one of our people has an allery to potastion. She asked for vegetables, instead of chips & was quite dissapointed at the poor selection that arrived. The other two of us were given just a bit of cress + chips with out meal. The deserts were very small. Drinks were costly. So, all in all, not very satisfactory for the £35 per head which it came to.

6 of us dined here. 2 were children. The waitress advised that there were no baguettes and pomme frites which was good to be told but so disappointing as I was promoting steak and chips to my friends and mashed potato just doesn’t do it for me with steak. So we found other items to eat and ordered the children the kids meal. They were served chips! No one could give an explanation

The Cafe Rouge has a reasonable menu at a fairly reasonable price! Slow service for those going to Covent Garden or the Pracock.

Restaurant was not busy but staff were very pleasant and attentive. Very tasty food - we had boeuf bourgignonne and tuna salad.
