Excellent restaurant with friendly staff and good food. We were there on a Sunday lunchtime which was very busy but the speed of service was excellent.

Set in a former wharf, now a galleria, Café Rouge Hays Galleria is a French restaurant with pavement dining looking towards the Thames and HMS Belfast.
As part of the UK-wide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this South Bank restaurant offers their tried and tested range of classic French cuisine including confit duck, beef bourguignon, poulet Breton and steak frites, as well as smaller dishes for a light bite. Especially good value for money are the lunch and dinner set menus, available most days. As for the drinks, a good range of French wines is on offer.
In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge, where the day starts with croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and baguettes, as well as hot chocolate, tea and several varieties of coffees.
With Tower Bridge, the London Dungeon and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre within the immediate vicinity, Hays Galleria Café Rouge is in an excellent location for a bit to eat between sightseeing morning, noon and night.

Good customer service, we didn't like the starters but the main course was very nice and big portion.

I booked a table for the Christmas time 8 people for the Christmas set meal. Now the restaurant is lovely and so are the staff however I think they are not prepared to do Christmas bookings are table was booked at 7 we didn't start eating until 8.30, my friend waited 25mins for her drink to arrive. I feel our waiter was too imposing sometimes he should have stepped back and allowed us to enjoy ourselves.
However when the drink's did arrive they were very good. At Christmas time for a place in CENTRAL LONDON they should have more staff and be more prepared they had a booking of 60 people which meant that other diners had to suffer. If you can't cater for everyone then don't take people's bookings.
My friend order olives for the table we never received them.
My friends turkey was terribly dry the desserts were a disaster so we ended up sending them back and taking them off the bill. Hair was found in the food however they changed it for us (of course)
Our main dishes however were wonderful and our starters. The manager was so lovely have us vouchers for 50% off. I would definitely give this place another chance however we only have Christmas once a year and a Christmas meal with friends should be fun with no problems, regardless of the bad service and waiting years to receive a drink and food. We had a good time but not because of this place.
Hopefully they will learn from this Christmas and be better prepared for next year but be warned before you book a Christmas meal.

The location, decor, ambience is great but I was not impressed by the food. I ordered a nicoise salad but it was very ordinary and very frankly it was just a plate of icy lettuce, tomatoes and with a bit of tuna slapped on top. I was disappointed so I ate no more than a third.

I asked my meat medium rare but it came well done, the starter was good and dessert as well

There were some little mistakes, no bacon in the burger even if it was explicitly asked, french fries as a side instead of a salad...

Nice setting and close to local attractions - it's a great place for casual dining.

We had lunch bought for us as part of a package with a visit to the Shard. We had a very pleasant lunch with reasonable choice from the set menu that accompanied the gift voucher. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would certainly go there again and would look forward to more freedom in the choice of dishes.
