In the historical city of Exeter, a flavour of France can be found at Café Rouge. Café Rouge Exeter boasts a vast number of seats as well as a vibrant al fresco dining area.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Whilst the exterior is modern in appearance, the interior embodies an authentic French ambience. Cafe Rouge - Exeter is within walking distance of Exeter Cathedral and high street shops.

The staff were lovely, however three of the dishes brought were cold. They wet taken back t
O be cocky again and though the camembert was hot, the cranberry sauce looked as though it had been watered down and the cheese double looked to have been reheated.

The restaurant was v full, and the staff were clearly keen that we shouldn't have to wait too long for our meal. As it happened we weren't in a hurry, so ended up feeling a bit hassled, but I'm sure that wasn't the intention.
The service, food, and wine were good. I had Boeuf Bourguignon, my fried had the chicken in cream wine sauce, which looked a bit dry to me, but she enjoyed it. The tarte au citron was nice and sharp.

Excellent lunch, the restaurant was full and very busy but we were served quickly and cheerfully by really good waiting staff who are a credit to the cafe rouge chain. Thankyou

comfortable, lovely food (dined from the autumn menu), good value and lovely waitress (Mary) although one of the starters was incorrect ! It didnt matter as they were all delicious. Very good house wines - red and white.

The interior decor is very nice. The staff were attentive and very pleasant. The menu seemed reasonably varied but........when the food arrived it appeared thrown onto the plates, so nil for presentation. Portion control was also very apparent when we looked onto our plates with half filed containers of gravy for the duck and half filled pot of minted peas for the hake. The dauphinoise potato was a dry square cake and the french fries tasteless. Neither dish from the al acarte menue were good value. I think the restaurant leads on 2 courses for a discount price and certainly most people seemed to be ordering from that menu but it didn't great either.
