Restaurant description

With its traditional exterior, Café Rouge Chester embodies the classic all-day French brasserie. Right next to the Grosvenor shopping centre, Café Rouge offers an outdoor seating area for al fresco dining.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Chester Café Rouge offers a calm, informal setting to enjoy classic French dishes. Café Rouge is also within walking distance of Chester Cathedral and Chester Racecourse.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

Out of two food choice options on menu and did not have ceasar dressing for salad which was disappointing. No alternatives offered to us which was poor service and meant that choices were restrictive. No complimentary coffees offered for inconvenience. Portion sizes small. Food not very tasty.

We chose the 2 course special for £11.95 and were not disappointed. Food was served efficiently and presented well. The waitress was also very good and welcoming.

Very mediocre at best. Slow service and cold steaks. When we informed staff that they were cold the same steaks were refried to warm them and returned well done. We ordered rare and medium rare. Not a good experience and we will not repeat it.
