Serving brasserie food in the centre of town, Café Rouge in Cheltenham replicates the unhurried style of a French bistro. Ornate chandeliers and antique-style lamps lend light to the cosy dining room and bar, while the outside terrace is the perfect place to watch the world go by as you dine.
As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as deep-fried camembert, baguettes, steak frites and mussels. There are also lighter dishes if you don't have much time to spare. The set menus for lunch and dinner (on certain days) are excellent value for money. There is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.
In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.
Chocolate ganache or apple tarte tatin make indulgent desserts, while a great range of children’s options is sure to please younger diners. Café Rouge Cheltenham is open early until late, centrally located on The Promenade.

Lovely experience, food delicious and well presented. Staff friendly.

Starter very tasty. As for the main course, the fish batter was very hard and therefore not enjoyable, the risotto tasted very much like the garlic mushrooms, makes one wonder how it was cooked and it was on the dry side. Dessert - well not much can go wrong with ready made tarts.

Lovely outdoor seating area, service good despite being busy. Favourite dish is the croque monsieur selection.

Felt a bit rushed. Arrived 30 minutes before kitchen closed and felt hurried with the restaurant being cleared for the night

As expected. Pleasant 'corporate' food from a chain. Not fine dining but perfectly adequate. Two complaints. One - No Moules. no Boulabaise. Apparently problems with the supplier. But this is a common complaint repeated on Tripadvisor reviews. Two - white wine at room temperature i.e. quite warm. No excuse, just bad cellar management.

I was really looking forward to this as I’ve been put on an exclusion diet to test for food intolerances so not eaten out in months and there was a starter and main I could eat. Turns out that the menu was changed months ago and they didn’t have the starter I could eat. Please update your menus. The main was good but disappointing as I booked it based on the menu advertised.
