Restaurant description

Standing out on the marina with its red façade, Café Rouge Brighton serves a tasty array of French dishes in relaxed surroundings. An al fresco dining area overlooks Brighton Marina.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Within walking distance of a bowling alley, cinema and the seafront, diners at Café Rouge - Brighton Marina can enjoy authentic French cuisine whilst taking in the scenic views.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

We had the 2course menu £12.95 Chose this restaurant for the mussels, didnt have any ! Bill didnt add up queried the fact that they hadnt applied the set menu price. Gave up and paid as didnt want to cause a fuss. Steak was tough. Sneaky = sauce was extra. There is no advantage in having the set menu as limited choice and same price?

Definitely the waiter who served our meals. Very knowledgeable about food and choices, even cooking. Three of the meals were enjoyable unfortunately my own meal and was not so nice. I had exactly the same meal on a previous occasion but this time it left a lot to be desired.

We were really looking forward to dinner as we had been before and the food was very good. However this time the steak was so tough it was almost inedible. The side dish of beans was almost the same... How you can can get hard beans when all you have to do is steam them is hard to imagine. I don't normally leave a negative review but considering the cost of the dinner and the poor quality I expected better, especially since we had eaten there before. On a positive note the service was very good, very friendly and helpful.

Main course arrived whilst we were in the middle of our starter. As the restaurant wasn't busy we asked then to take it back and bring it when we were ready. Our waitress was very surly and rather than apologising said she couldn't see it mattered. She then spent the rest of the evening glaring at us. I can see why the restaurant was empty as you really weren't made welcome by her. The other make waiters did try to make up for her rudeness.
