Set apart from the surrounding shops by its red frontage, Café Rouge Bath serves a delicious array of French dishes. In the heart of Bath, Café Rouge is within walking distance of the Roman Baths.
As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.
In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.
With its glorious red banquettes and high ceilings, Café Rouge – Bath is perfect for a pre or post-theatre meal. Theatre Royal Bath is a 5-minute walk away.

The size of the steak meal was small, and was garnished with a few leaves of undressed salad. Disappointingly, the availability of desserts from the menu was limited. Both my first and second choice desserts ( cheese and tarte citrone) wasn’t available.

I chose the set menu. Starter was OK, dessert very good, but the main course was disappointing - two very small pieces of semi dried-up chicken

Lovely traditional french decor which was a reminder of some cafes we have been into while on holiday in France

Went with 2 friends on Saturday and we had vouchers for half price mains. Felt a bit chaotic when we arrived. Our order was taken promptly by a friendly waiter. The food took 45 mins to arrive. The food was nicely presented and tasty but I would not of liked to have payed full price for it. The portions were small. We were seated by the main door and watched at least 25 people turned away when there were lots of empty tables. I asked the staff why this was and was told they don't have enough staff and then if they seated these people the seated people would complain about the wait for their food. The staff worked really hard but Cafe Rouge need to address the loss of income and the disturbance to dinners seated near the door of people constantly being turned away.

Food was lovely, staff were very friendly. Main course was taking a bit longer so we had to chase it up.

Overall a very poor dining experience - so poor that the restaurant didn't charge us for our dine. VERY slow service although the restaurant was not busy, the food wasn't of a good standard, luke warm, steak over cooked, all in all a very disappointing experience.

Can’t fault this restaurant. Dined here with a friend on a visit to Bath. The service was fine, the waiter was friendly and polite. Our meal was very nice but fairly basic. We had the Beetroot tartin followed by the chicken. Although the restaurant was quiet at the time i do wonder if they would have coped had it been busy. Good value.

Great welcome, lovely food - enjoyed by all 6 of us. My duck was delicious. Service was good, although the restaurant was very busy.
