I booked an afternoon tea for 4. Booking in itself was relatively seamless online, although I was misled in believing that the £30 for 2 price was a special offer online, instead of just being the normal price i.e. I didn't need to buy vouchers to secure that price. Afternoon teas are served in a separate room, which on the plus side was quieter than the main café sitting area, but on the negative side was terribly spartan and cold. We came for a treat and some festive cheer, it felt a lot more festive in the lushly decorated main hall of the gallery and the main café area, than the storeroom they put us in!!

First time in Gallery and first time in cafe where we had afternoon tea. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole team. To start with the small cup of soup on a cold day was great. Sandwiches, scones and cakes were excellenthe and as much tea as we liked it been made from tea leaves only added to our enjoyment what a difference instead of tea bags. All staff were very nice and looked after us well. Would definitely go again.

We arrived early - not a problem. We were seated and asked for our preferred tea and our food arrived soon after. Staff were attentive and lovely, food was wonderful and my gluten free cakes were the same as the non gluten free. Delicious.

I treated my Mum and I to afternoon tea and we were not disappointed. We both had plenty of delicious cakes, sandwiches and desserts to eat as well as an endless supply of tea/coffee. The staff were helpful and friendly and we were placed in the 'Snug' which was next to the busy restaurant, so it made the experience relaxing and altogether really enjoyable. Thank you for also catering for Coeliacs!

I have severe food intolerances but this was no problem at all for the Café. They made a vegetarian glutenfree afternoon tea for myself and a lactosefree afternoon tea for my partner. The food was very tasty and the service was friendly and quick.

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea in the beautiful surroundings of Cafe Portrait. The service was very friendly and attentive and staff were keen to ensure we had everything we needed. The afternoon tea was superb and there were so many delicious treats to enjoy. One of our party is Coeliac and this was easily catered for with impressive gluten free substitutes. We would highly recommend a visit and we'll definitely be back very soon.

Afternoon tea for 4 people. Surroundings were nice, food not at all value for money at nearly £18 per person. The cream for the scones was NOT clotted and had gone sour!! When mentioned to staff I was told "well there have been 12 afternoon teas today and this is the first I've heard!" No apology or sympathy at all! Very disappointed indeed.

The good was average. Scone felt dry. Salmon sandwich was too lemony for our taste.
All other food was good.
We felt the service could've been better. No one came to see if we wanted any more drinks etc. The staff member who asked for our voucher was seemed a little curt, however this might have been due to language differences. Overall we enjoyed the day and very grateful to office staff for extending voucher end date.
