Restaurant description

Housed in a derelict train carriage on Brick Lane, Caboose is a unique location for sampling slow-cooked, smokehouse-style British meats. Seating a maximum of 13, the chefs cook in front of you to create an intimate private venue.

Changing with the seasons, the Caboose menu is a nod to the classic American barbecue, with mouth-watering burgers and slaws teaming up with rich sauces, cheeses and mash. Start with an indulgent group platter of smoked chicken wings, chipotle hummus, hush puppies and homemade dipping sauces, before tackling one of the meat-laden mains. Paying homage to the origins of the setting, ‘The Fat Controller’ is a sumptuous blend of 10-hour pulled pork belly, smoked over fruit wood and served with barbecue sauce, pickles and smoked cheddar.

Caboose Brick Lane operates a bring-your-own-booze policy, so guests can make themselves at home in the rustically furbished wood cabin. The coffee is always fair trade, and like the meat is carefully sourced.

On one of London’s most fashionable streets, Caboose is a 5-minute walk from Shoreditch High Street Train Station.

Very cool concept. Bring your own booze with a set menu. Food was amazing and staff friendly. It's a very cozy cabin - 9 of us fit comfortably. They had bluetooth speakers we could connect to and play our own music. Will definitely be going back for sure! Management of Caboose were very friendly and answered all our questions by email very quickly. They also decorated the cabin with balloons as we were there for a stag/hen party!

The staff were very responsive to my queries and even put up balloons for our celebration. The food was totally awesome and plenty of it! We were very well looked after all evening by Dan in the Caboose and we had such a fun night, playing our dodgy tunes and singing very loudly. Brilliant place to book for a special occasion, well worth it!

The food is excellent and the whole idea behind the experience works so well. The chicken wings in the starter are to die for!

We had a mini wedding celebration as a group of 11 in the private dining booth! At first the venue seemed a tight squeeze but it was fine after a few drinks! The extra touches to us were the most amazing as they decorated the booth with some balloons and even made a white wedding cake for the bride and groom to cut after dinner! The team were great hosts and very welcoming, it’s BYOB for an extra £5 each and they provide a big cold ice bucket waiting to keep it all cold. Bring your own music too which was nice - you can connect to their speakers. We had the booth from 8 to 11pm which was perfect. To start we were served a giant sharing platter of chicken wings, hummous, pitta and variety of dips. Main was a choice of 3 - pulled pork, brisket beef or a combination of both, all served as a burger in a brioche bun, with or without cheese. We were also served fries. Instead of plates you are given a tray covered with a sheet of greaseproof paper and wooden cutlery which was fine as it matched the theme of Caboose. The food was tasty but I wouldn't say it was amazing or good value for £35 each. What we loved was having a small cosy private booth that you could share with your close friends and reminded us of the private small private rooms in BYOB Japanese restaurants we use to frequent when we first met. Things to note are: - Toilets are in a bar opposite (3 minute walk away) which is a bit annoying but fine. - It is a tight squeeze so there's not much space to put belongings and even on the table, so don't bring too much stuff! It is also best if you know each other well! On the whole it was a good experience for a special celebration, however it was a bit expensive (£35 food + £5 BYOB) for the food that you get, which is essentially a burger with fries and a chicken wing. We thought it was worth it as we had a great and memorable night, but it depends on what you’re after!

Loved it. Booking was easy and the team were able to accommodate our special requests (we had a little girl with us, and of course we wanted to stream the England match) as well as our times. The food was excellent - the beef absolutely melted in your mouth and everything was freshly cooked in front of you. You bring your own beer and they give you an ice bucket which they refill with ice - perfect on such a hot day. It's a cosy cabin - fits eight comfortably - even on a hot day, but you can squeeze in a couple more. The whole party said they really enjoyed the meal, and as someone who is chalking up unusual places to eat as a birthday party gathering, Caboose was spot on.

It was fantastic. They were in touch on the day for last minute details, greeted us with a smile on arrival, accommodated a last minute addition and prepared some very amazing food. Really had the best afternoon and would 100% recommend and return myself.

A very unique location and excellent vibe. Food about 3/4 star. Was given an unexpected service charge of about 12% which was not mentioned anywhere before hand and bearing in mind you serve your own drinks a bit over the top
