Popular with celebrities and New York City's well heeled, Butter restaurant in Nolita offers a choice between formal dining or a more relaxed meal accompanied by music.
This innovative New York restaurant took the city by storm in 2002 and continues to go from strength to strength. Upstairs, the formal Great Room is a bright space with a vaulted ceiling, decorated with birch branches and dining booths, as well as more traditional tables. The cuisine, prepared by head chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli (who has worked under a 3 star Michelin chef in Paris), draws on French style and techniques, but uses thoroughly American ingredients, sourced locally according to season. As if this wasn't impressive enough, the 225-label wine list has received an award from Wine Spectator for excellence.
Downstairs, the more informal Birch Room has the air of a mountain chalet, with subdued lighting and wood-based features. Here a DJ plays music most evenings ranging from soul, funk, R&B and hip hop to disco and classic rock.
Aside from catering to the needs of its diners, Butter restaurant also contributes to the community by supporting various charities.
