I had the lunch / early evening meal. Good value and good food. Early evening was rather quiet but very enjoyable all the same

Situated on George Street, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the centre of the 18th-century town, Browns Brasserie & Bar – Edinburgh is a lively venue offering seasonal Scottish dishes, European cuisine, and a variety of colourful cocktails. With pavement dining during the warm months, and contemporary interiors, the building fits right in among neo-classical houses and pretty Georgian squares.

Spanning from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, the Browns menu offers all-day brasserie dining. Indulgent plats du jour and Sunday roasts are staple favourites, while sumptuous flavours include roasted lamb with potatoes & minted peas, Browns’ signature fish pie, and decadent salted caramel profiteroles. A sophisticated children’s menu at Browns offers tempting favourites with a grown-up twist.

Showcasing a penchant for cocktails, the Browns bar offers an array of classic mixes, signature concoctions and thirst-quenching mocktails, as well as fine world wines, and smoothies. Enjoy Browns’ afternoon tea and cake accompanied freshly-roasted coffee from an independent supplier, or a warming pot of loose leaf tea.

Browns Brasserie & Bar - Edinburgh is a 15-minute walk from Haymarket Rail Station.

A lovely place and the meal was delicious! The children's meals were very good and the price for all meals for new years eve late lunch were a great value! Friendly staff on arrival and our waiter was great, brilliant with the children! Shame not all the staff were a bit more jolly!!

It was disappointing. The service was poor, on entering we waited some time to be seated. Table was booked for 4 people, when shown to out table it was set for 2, waiter didn't notice. We had to ask to see the menu for desserts and had to ask for coffee. Staff were not attentive. We have been when busier and had a better experience.

My party was 3 ladies of a certain age! Although I had requested a particular table that I had found made hearing easier, we were not allocated that table as it could possibly accommodate 6. The restaurant was never that busy. I suggested we could choose another table that was not right in the busiest section and reluctantly the manager(?) agreed. The food was good as usual. We chose from the 2 course lunch menu. The waiting staff were not really attentive and we had to catch their eye to order coffees and then to get the bill and then to collect our cash from the table. There is a big campaign at present organised by Action on Hearing Loss to encourage restaurants to be more aware of the those with hearing issues. We definitely felt there was no awareness or helpfulness among the staff. Perhaps some staff training would be in order. Seating in quiet areas away from the noisy coffee machines and away from the dreaded piped music speakers are things to be understood.

Very disappointing. I've been to this restaurant many times and apart from bar staff, the food experience was bad.
My wife ordered a half chicken meal and it was the dullest, least imaginative meal I have ever seen in a restaurant. Floor staff manner was not good either, with waitress lifting meal plates from table, as if we were finished, just because I called her over to get us more drinks.
No tip was left as none was earned and I won't be going back.

Quite disappointing really. Booked a voucher that was to cost £11.95 for two courses. When we got to the restaurant we were told to pick something from the lunch menu at a cost of £10.95!! We queried this and were told that the voucher really applied to England as it is an English company and the same menu was lower in Scotland at £10.95. I thought this was a UK company! We really looked forward to this meal but it was just the ordinary menu - no great deal that is for sure - you don't need to book a voucher - just walk in off the street. We were also told that the menu changed after we booked our voucher - quite a shabby deal. Will not be back!

The service was not very good either - we waited at least 5 minutes before we were seated and had to prompt service at each course! A very ordinary experience although the food was tasty and well presented

Best feature was the service and friendliness of our waitress don't have her name

    Food was good and hot.

The fabric of the building could do with a revamp ( freshen up)
