The service was excellent. However, I requested plain sandwiches and received sandwiches full of pickle, corination chicken and so it goes on. As you can predict ,all we're left, to my disappointment. The tea was also served in a metal teapot, surely the idea of afternoon tea, is traditional china. It was a shame for my 84 yr old father as he could only eat the cakes available. I would not book with Marriot again, which is such a shame .
    Regards Adele Keight.

At nearly £30 for two people the afternoon tea experience was a bit of a let down. Although the quality of the food was acceptable the quantity was not. Just three small finger sandwiches each, one scone and a few small cakes. We were the only couple in the restaurant, and I know that it should be a relaxing experience but it was very slow service. The main issue though apart from tea or coffee, white or brown bread there was no choice of filling's or if you wanted plain or fruit scones. You were just given what they had. Also the hot beverages were poured from horrible canteen type pot's that were then removed. Surely China pots left at the table would have been more acceptable.

Food was very nice, staff efficient and friendly. However there was a group booking of about 90 people in another room. Our booking for 7.30 meant a one hour wait before the starter arrived. We were still waiting for desert 2.5 hours later. We complained about the slowness to the manager who was understanding and he took 20% off the bill and gave us a free round of drinks

My 4 girlfriends and i enjoyed a very happy 50th birthday afternoon tea here with unlimited Prosecco - what's not to like!! Having said that the food was delicious too - tasty finger sandwiches, a lovely assortment of cakes and some first rate scones with clotted dream and jam. The birthday girl even had her own special plate of cake and chocolates, complete with a candle! Our waiter Ricky ( with the majestic surname of Byron Baker Harvey!) deserves special mention He was delightful and attentive and kept our glasses well topped up all afternoon. If i were to be critical at all it would just have been nice to have had a table a little more discreet from the tail end of Sunday lunch being served. The 2 areas near the bar were free and would be have been conducive to a more relaxing atmosphere for afternoon tea. So 4 stars not 5!

i was amazed that the bar did not have a red/dark rum. Not this spiced nonsense but a traditional rum such as Lambs, Captain Morgan, Navy, Woods etc.

Black Forest gateau (with no cherries)...... tasted and looked more like a brownie. Pan roasted pork cutlet, over cooked (very dry)
Waiter was very serious, not very witty
