Great tastes. Not just mainstream menues

We have enjoyed our dinner after a day of skiing. Our teenage boys chosed Burgers while my husband and I took a meat and a vegetarian dish. We all liked it, also the starters were excellent.

As usual very good and friedly service. Food (hamburger and pommes frites) warm only, pommes frites overdone and hard, not satisfying. Dessert with sorbets good as well as espresso. No comparison to winter kitchen and menu.

Very mixed feelings about this place. I've been coming to Brasserie Conrad for a number of years now and each time I've visited Engelberg I've booked here for dinner each night of our stay. The food had always been superb and so didn't feel the need to go anywhere else. However, this year we noticed some changes. To start with the wine - we normally always drink local wine, but at a starting price of 60CHF for a bottle of Swiss wine we opted for the Italian instead. The wine prices have certainly seemed to take a hike. Our starter was a pork belly salad - really tasty and well presented. We then had chicken for the main course. The sauce and accompaniments were good but the core ingredient - the chicken - was a processed fillet and not what I would expect at a restaurant of this quality. On our second evening we ordered the pork chop. We were served processed pieces of pork with no bone in sight. We spoke with the management who didn't seem that bothered. they said they have very good chefs - I wouldn't disagree with that but they need to use quality core ingredients especially when paying 59CHF for three courses. The portion sizes have also got very small. I would normally struggle to eat three courses but had no problems and could have eaten a bit more. We cancelled our last night and went elsewhere.

The Food at the brasserie was really very good. They had a lot of People and there was only one waiter, so he was always very busy.

From the first moment we were greeted at the door until the last morsel of food our experience was divine. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant was fantastic, and it gave a warm and inviting glow with candles everywhere. After we were seated by our lovely waitress we enjoyed a drink and a beef carpaccio with capers and beets for a starter. The entrees were incredible and just the perfect size, not too big or small, and we had a delicious desert of lemon meringue and homemade chocolate truffles. Our waitress was very helpful in explaining the menu and the food to us including giving us a rundown of each dish as it was delivered to the table. The entire meal was very enjoyable.

I think the overall experience was quite nice. The waitress had somewhat of an attitude, but hey this is also a place for skiers so I can kind of buy the lingo somehow.
Both the starter and main course was quite small, so I would recommend both. However, if you expect a "Skier's main" to be good size meal after a day of skiing, then you will be disappointed. I didn't know what to expect and even though I took 3 courses I would probably want a little more in general(I'm not a big guy either at 75kg).
Also, in my personal opinion I would prefer to have the meat served with approximately 3 degrees lower inner temp. It was not dry but a little bit over cooked for my taste(in my book well done is not preferable for red meat).
I would also like to point out that the previously mentioned waitress had a good sense of service and I would reckon did a good job at making sure we were happy when we left, like for example not charging for coffee and checking in regularly.
All in all I rate Brasserie Konrad(Ski Lodge Engelberg) 4 out of 5 stars. It was good, but not perfect in my opinion.
