Restaurant description

Bonfire is an industrial-chic eatery located on the first floor of the Barbican, London’s multi-purpose art centre. With a focus on seasonal, great quality ingredients, Bonfire’s menus offer the food everyone craves. Wholesome burgers, fiery chicken wings and indulgent milkshakes can be enjoyed in a relaxed, rustic setting overlooking the Barbican’s lakeside.

The Bonfire menu really packs in a great selection of flame-grilled treats. On the burger side, there is the classic cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce option, or diners can choose patties packed with truffle mayo, BBQ pulled pork and green chillies, or even a vegetarian choice of portobello mushroom, grilled halloumi and smoked paprika. There is spit-roast chicken from the rotisserie, and sides like fries topped with blue cheese.

Desserts at Bonfire restaurant at the Barbican are just as indulgent – there is salted caramel brownie with vanilla bean ice cream, and even gluten-free options like white chocolate cheesecake. On the drink menu, there are rich milkshakes, a choice of craft beers, and cocktails like classic mojitos and negronis.

Bonfire in London is 5 minutes' walk from Barbican Tube Station.

Lovely freshly cooked burgers, delicious salads. We particularly enjoyed the Buffalo chicken burger, the Chilli jalapeno burger and the Cobb salad. The service was quick, friendly and just right for before an event at the Barbican. Highly recommended.

Great food but poor service - it was busy but we couldn't get anyone to take our main or dessert orders. We had to ask for water three times and were served desserts but not given any spoons. A real pity as the food is really good.

We really enjoyed our meal out on the balcony. Great tasting halloumi burger with avocado and very filling.

Sunday afternoon on the terrace, food average, but child friendly, free table football to keep kids amused, friendly staff, good service.

poor service and average food, would not go again, waiter had to be asked three times for everything, when he did deliver food dumped it down and did not even ask us if we needed anything. we talked to him and he just walked away. we had to get up and get ourselves, so food was cold. then after when we finally got his attention he did not come back and again we had to go up and get things twice, was like we were a very lost after thought, made us late for our venue after and we had left one and a half hours to eat one course. really bad

Loved the terrace and being able to sit outside. The food was great (I had a caesar salad and sweet potato fries). Only niggly bits were finding the restaurant in the building (signage was poor) and the time it took for the food to arrive despite the restaurant being more than half empty. Not ideal if you only have 1 hour for lunch.

Food was good but service was absolutely terrible. They gave us the wrong burger (two different ones) when we clearly asked for the same. We showed the first server our Barbican Membership card to get the discount at the start and she said she would add it to the bill. It took 20 mins to pay at the end and we had to physically find someone three times to pay despite the place being only a third full and we were rushing for a concert. The bill came without the members’ discount so had to be redone. We did not tip and that is a first for us anywhere. The kitchen team were seriously let down by the front of house serving staff.
