A funky industrial space inside the iconic Barbican Centre, Bonfire specialises in burgers, rotisserie chicken and all manner of U.S. comfort foods. Outside there is a huge terrace space overlooking the mini lake, perfect for an evening cocktail.
The Bonfire menu really packs in a great selection of flame-grilled treats. On the burger side, there is the classic cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce option, or diners can choose patties packed with truffle mayo, BBQ pulled pork and green chillies, or even a vegetarian choice of portobello mushroom, grilled halloumi and smoked paprika. There is spit-roast chicken from the rotisserie, and sides like fries topped with blue cheese.
Desserts at Bonfire restaurant at the Barbican are just as indulgent – there is salted caramel brownie with vanilla bean ice cream, and even gluten-free options like white chocolate cheesecake. On the drink menu, there are rich milkshakes, a choice of craft beers, and cocktails like classic mojitos and negronis.
Bonfire in London is 5 minutes' walk from Barbican Tube Station.

Great staff and foid

Staff very helpful and pleasant. However, the table was small for 3 people, but apparently, couldn't be changed as fully booked. My daughter's salad came incomplete and had to have the potatoes and croutons added later. The salad bowls were very awkward to eat from, having such steep sides, and the wooden board for the burger had nowhere to put mayo/ketchup. Please consider providing more suitable and user-friendly plates/bowls. Lastly, there was only one dessert available, as there had been a "very busy weekend", we were told. The outdoor setting was pleasant, although the chairs could have been more comfortable. The cocktails were lovely.

Nice setting, pleasant service but the food was awful. Never had such revolting chicken.

This has to be the worst 'dining' experience ever. We arrived at our table and after 30 minutes had to walk around the restaurant to find someone to order drinks from. After another 20 minutes we managed to ask someone who was cleaning a table if we could order food. She informed us that it was her day off and she was just helping out as they were busy - the place was barely half full.
She took our order and then vanished. After another 40 minutes I had to find someone else to see if in fact our order had been placed. They went to check with the promise that they would return to update us.....they never returned. Went to ask someone else (by this point there were 3 people looking very confused in deep discussion with the 'chef') and was told they were trying to find out where our food was and would come and give us an update.
10 minutes later we were told that it would be 15 minutes. 10 minutes after that the food turned up nice and cold.
Service was appalling, food was equally as bad. The table behind us was served their final meal 30 minutes after most of the party had finished eating. This is an expensive burger joint so we thought would be quick and easy but the staff (other than the girl working her day off and another who stepped in at the end) are hopeless.
We were hungry and going to a show so sat it out but unless you have time to kill and it's only an average, overpriced drink you want then choose elsewhere.
And no, the fact that they didn't charge us does not make it OK!

Unable to review because the kitchen was too busy to serve us in time for our show. Looked nice though

food was poor: fries were cold, burger was very "processed" , salad limp and if we had not been in a hurry for the theatre we would have sent it back

It's decent, but overall it could have been better. I think the food was slightly under cooked, the drinks are below average standards, and maybe it's due to locations but most of the waiters are busy serving others that they completely forgot our table.

Well I can't tell what this restaurant was like because we ended up having to cancel our food. After waiting 40 minutes for our food we had to leave as we were going to see a performance at the Barbican. Seeing as the restaurant is right next to the theatre you think they might inform you if there is going to be a long wait. When I said that we would have to leave then lady serving just looked at me like what did I expect, it's busy!! Would not recommend going here if you are going to a performance at the Barbican

I am so sorry to say that we were really disappointed with the Bonfire experience. I can only say it had the air of a restaurant that has a captive audience and just isn't trying hard enough. The waiting time was long, which for a theatre restaurant is obviously tricky. We had booked early so had plenty of time, but we had been there 40 minutes and had still only had a jug of tap water and 2 milkshakes, one of which was the wrong milkshake, so we had to wait another 10 minutes for the replacement. The food was not cheap, but was not really very nice. The spicy mayo dip for the (actually nice) sweet potato chips had a film over it that only comes from something that has been left to sit for a while, and made me feel slightly queasy. My steak sandwich wasn't properly cooked and had to go back, which was odd because the restaurant has a health and safety policy where most meat has to be served well done, and both mine and my husband's steaks were tiny, not even big enough the fill the piece of bread they were presented on. The french fries were nothing special, tasted exactly the same as the oven cook french fries we sometimes use at home. The kids enjoyed their burgers, though they were quite dry, but saved by the additional toppings and fillings. It was such a shame as it could be a good experience, and the one thing that really saved it was the very friendly and helpful waiting staff, who I felt really sorry for, trying to do a great job with very little to help them do it. Smarten up your act Bonfire and be amazing!
