After a series of heats & pop-up nights, Matthew Hurry was crowned M & Bookatable Young Chef of the Year 2019 at a winners’ gala at M Victoria Street. The final evening of the contest saw the 4 highest scoring entrants cook a dish each from a 4-course menu served to a packed room of diners and industry figures.
Showcasing the depth of talent from all of the contestants, the gala event saw Luke Bryan, Matthew Hurry, Jordan Kerridge and Jamie Warley serve up an impressive menu, before Matthew was announced as the winner.
To make it through to the final stages, the top chefs from regional heats in London and Manchester were each invited to host their own pop-up night at M Victoria, with their nights judged by both paying diners and industry figures.
Currently working at Laurent at Hotel Café Royal in London, Matthew’s winning menu included signature dishes such as poached lobster with lobster bisque, cannon of baby lamb with coriander crust, and pineapple and spiced rum upside-down cake.
