On arrival for lunch on Monday we had to wait at the bar while the barman sorted out his till. We were appalled at the price of a glass of wine (£8. 50) and a small Bex £4.50). We asked for menus but had to ask twice before they came and although I made it clear we were in a bit of a rush( train to catch) there was a huge gap between ordering and our meal arriving. Three of us ordered steak (which we appreciate needs to be cooked fresh), but 30 minutes is still a bit much.

A lovely restaurant, with nooks and crannies. The staff were very attentive and friendly, especially toward our one year old grandson. The food was well cooked and beautifully presented. The favourite being the black & blue burger. Favourite dessert was treacle tart with custard ice cream, delicious.

I booked afternoon tea for my daughter and myself, as a treat on 01/06/17. It included a glass of prosecco at a special price. Savouries were nice, but too big, expected miniture versions as experienced previously. Scones, were burnt, and inedible, to be fair, we were offered a further, complimentary glass of prosecco each. When fresh scones arrived, again they were overdone, hard and very hot! Scones should be soft and light. Also no sugar had been added, so hot, tasteless dough! Miniature donuts were raw on the inside. G & T sorbet was fab! As was candyfloss! Quirky touch. Was disappointed in the food, should have been better. The waitress was friendly, attentive and apologetic. We were sat in the small conservatory, warm day, although roof was open there was a heater on!

Not impressed at all because we didn't want the pork which was in our offer which was two courses an a bottle of wine for two for £55 . We ended paying around minty five pounds including a service charge. The staff we lovely but didn't make it clear . We were told not to worry we can have something else if we don't want pork. But wasn't told of the cost our main was fish which was lovely but had a few tomatos which wasn't filling. We were asked if we would like bread an olives on arrival an was charged for the olives . We ended up having a sweet cos we were still hungry. We expected to pay for the third course an expect to have around another twenty pounds added onto the fifty five . But not the cost it was really a deal for us st all. So apart from nice staff won't be eating there again .

Excellent setting and the food was very good. Should let the customer decide their own service charge and not automatically added to bill. Overall very good.

Food overpriced. A specials menu was brought to the table when we were offered desserts - maybe we should have been given it earlier.
