Overall a fine experience. We booked the library but that hadn’t been communicated to the bistro so they tried to seat us in there. Luckily, the waitress was kind enough to put us in the library anyway. Service was fairly good overall but the quality of the food was somewhat lacking. The cucumber sandwiches had been over salted to the point that they were inedible (the message from the chef was that it was probably the sour cream and we got the impression that he thought we were lying or just wrong about the salt level even though we literally couldn’t eat them) and the bread on the salmon sandwiches was stale (apparently they changed supplier recently but I’m not sure how that affects the chef’s ability to check the bread himself). The cakes and scones were nice, as was the tea. It was my mum’s birthday and at the end they told me that they’d written ‘happy birthday’ on her plate, which we hadn’t seen. I didn’t complain or say anything negative as it hadn’t affected our experience but they still brought out the plate from the washing up rack to show my mum to prove that they had... which made us both feel quite uncomfortable. Overall the quality of the food was average, the wait staff were good and the chef seemed arrogant and annoyed that we’d not agreed that everything was perfect. Having it in the library was a lovely experience and we’re grateful that we were able to have it in this setting.

Great Atmosphere, lovely food, felt a little rushed at times, was asked 3 times (by different waiters) if we had decided what we wanted for dessert and we had only been in the restaurant an hour and wanted to make an evening of it. The Waiter could not answer some very basic questions about the wine I was ordering, I thought he might have offered to find someone who did know as it is called Hotel...

Went for afternoon tea. Was a lovely experience. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, a bit dark towards the back away from the windows but it was a cloudy day. The afternoon tea was delicious. We opted for here as the menu was a bit more than cucumber sandwiches. We had a choice of tea served in a nice big pot. The sandwiches ranged from cured ham and cheese on little croissants, smoked salmon & cream cheese, a lovely quiche and egg mayo on brioche rolls. The staff were very helpful and accommodated a range of dietary needs including vegetarian. The desserts were fabulous, the gin and tonic sundae was delicious. Highly recommend.

Afternoon tea excellent. Would have appreciated more fresh tea served more frequently as part of the experience. Had to request a second pots of tea as the first pots served at the beginning of the tea were cold and too strong before we had started the second course. Better smaller pots of tea more frequently through the tea service.

Overall good experience, the problem was they didn't honour the actual offer. The deal was with a glass of wine included, but they charged us for them.
