Bird of Smithfield is situated in a 5-storey Georgian townhouse complete with rooftop terrace. Sitting alongside London’s only functioning meat market, the abundance of fresh, local meat is far from surprising.

From head chef Tommy Boland, the Bird of Smithfield menu offers a delicious fusion of British gastronomy with French cooking influences. Try starters like Cornish mackerel with oyster, radish and pickled cucumber, followed by roasted turbot with celeriac purée with winter greens, charred potatoes, and hazelnut and black truffle pesto. Desserts include pistachio soufflé with bitter chocolate ice cream.

The dining room is stylishly decked out in tweed and herringbone fabrics, whilst the lounge bar, basement cocktail bar and roof terrace are equally well groomed. Regular food & drinks pop ups are also held at Bird of Smithfield.

Occupying an historic location, Bird of Smithfield is a 5-minute walk from Farringdon and Barbican train stations.

Loved everything about the dinner. Often set menus have weaker dishes than a la carte menus but the menu we were presented had options where I would have been happy with any of the options. Fantastic bresaola starter. Lamb as a main was succulent. And delicious rhubarb cheesecake for dessert. All this in a beautiful restaurant setting. Also service was spot on, from the front door to the wait staff.

This is probably my favourite restaurant in London. The cooking is excellent, the dining room small and elegant and the service efficient but pleasant. The only reservation I have is that it has very recently been taken over and I hear the chef is leaving. They will be hard pushed to replace him as he is brilliant

Great value set menu and food quality very good although slightly underwhelmed by heritage tomato mozzarella starter which lacked flavour and eye appeal! Thought that it was a nice touch to get happy anniversary written on our dessert plates. Restaurant was pleasant enough but pretty empty and somehow didn't have a lot of ambiance. But good company of family get together made up for that. All in all would visit again - thank you.

The value of the set menu meant we were unsure what to expect - seemed too good to be true. But a thoroughly enjoyable meal, in a pretty first floor dining room, with a short but interesting wine list and attentive but not overly fussy service. Will definitely be back

I visited Bird of Smithfield for the first time when visiting a good friend for lunch on the Bookatable deal of 3 courses and a glass of Prosecco for £25, and was very impressed with the atmosphere in the first floor restaurant looking out onto Smithfield market, the 3 choices for each course was adequate and very good value for the quality of food we ate , the lamb and plaice mains were the stars , and the relaxed staff made us feel very comfortable during the 3 hours we spent at our table . Would recommend to anyone looking to eat in the Farringdon/Hugh Holborn area.
