Fantastic service. Amazing food. We were tight for time and the staff responded brilliantly, they even booked us a taxi for the end of our meal. The food was top quality. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Bird of Smithfield is situated in a 5-storey Georgian townhouse complete with rooftop terrace. Sitting alongside London’s only functioning meat market, the abundance of fresh, local meat is far from surprising.

From head chef Tommy Boland, the Bird of Smithfield menu offers a delicious fusion of British gastronomy with French cooking influences. Try starters like Cornish mackerel with oyster, radish and pickled cucumber, followed by roasted turbot with celeriac purée with winter greens, charred potatoes, and hazelnut and black truffle pesto. Desserts include pistachio soufflé with bitter chocolate ice cream.

The dining room is stylishly decked out in tweed and herringbone fabrics, whilst the lounge bar, basement cocktail bar and roof terrace are equally well groomed. Regular food & drinks pop ups are also held at Bird of Smithfield.

Occupying an historic location, Bird of Smithfield is a 5-minute walk from Farringdon and Barbican train stations.

The service was excellent and staff very welcoming and polite. The starter was disappointing and my partners lamb on his main course was very fatty and chewy. The flavours were beautiful and dessert was lovely but we left feeling we hadnt been wowed.

Had the Tasting Menu. Excellent service with good quality food and lovely dishes. opted for flight of wines which was good value for £28 although I criticised the Loire Sauvignon which didn't quite fit for the dish. The Rose wine was excellent. overall very enjoyable evening although a large party rather overwhelmed the restaurant. However the staff did the best to minimise the impact on our group of 4 . I think with the small room that if you wanted a quiet dining experience it would be worth checking on any large parties booked in, ( so phoning might be the option rather than on- line booking).

We opted for the 6 course tasting menu and the food was incredible, every element on every dish was as close to perfect as you could get. Our particular favourite was the turbot with linguine and chicken and the mackerel with crispy squid. The restaurant itself was sophisticated but quite relaxed, not too formal which was refreshing as some restaurants with food of that quality take themselves a bit too seriously. Waiting staff were excellent. The only thing I would say is that the additional wine paring isn't really worth it. The courses are fairly quick to come out so it doesn't leave a lot of time to savour and enjoy the wine before the next one comes out and, in some instances, we had multiple wines on the table.... just buy a bottle and enjoy at your own pace.

Fabulous food, excellent service and lovely surroundings. We had the set 3 course lunch menu, good value for money and extremely delicious. Can’t wait to go back.

Food and service was very good. Wine was poor! We ordered the £20 Viura Sauvignon blend, thinking that as there was only a very short wine-list, each wine would be well chosen. But it was nearly colourless and tasteless. The waitress did bring us a free glass of Pinot Grigio each instead, which was a nice gesture, but that wine also was pretty thin. Seemed to us that they wine-list needed some attention, to match the quality of everything else at the restaurant.

Another good meal (though not quite as good as the previous one) My sea bream dish was slightly oversalted and the vegetables were blurred by this. Again excellent house wine, white and red. I do wish the assiduous pouring of wine was left to the guests rather than the waiters...it always looks as if we are being hurried up to get the next bottle. It's not as if we havent got working arms! You wouldnt expect the waiters to load up your fork and hand it to you! But overall such a nice restaurant with charming staff and a calm atmosphere. Warmly recommended

Brilliant fixed price lunch and really good value. Clever but not pretentious cooking, charming not overbearing service. A delightful first floor room for the restaurant but they see to have some cheaper snacks in the downstairs bar.
