Modern restaurant, nice smaller private room where you can talk privately. Very good service and food. We got the set menu 3-course including a champagne cocktail. It was all very tasty.

Awarded a Michelin star, Benares brings the excitement and vibrancy of Indian cuisine to a chic, elegant setting in Mayfair, central London. All lamb and chicken is Halal, and many complementing exotic ingredients are encompassed, ranging from spice rubbed Romney Marsh lamb cannon with white aubergine purée and artichoke Fritters, to hearty vegetarian options like pea and lentil cakes with warm cauliflower purée and asparagus stir-fry. A number of dining options are available at this Atul Kochhar restaurant, from the a la carte menu, to Benares sharing platters and pre-theatre set menus.

A cooling but bold dessert menu is served at Benares restaurant, with rose bhapa doi, hibiscus sorbet and fresh raspberries a popular choice. An extensive wine list is also available, with expert recommendations by a sommelier to accompany key dishes. An inventive, tantalising cocktail menu is showcased at Benares in London, with options like the trademark zingy passion fruit chutney martini.

Very poor indeed. The 'tasting menu' was not a tasting menu. We were served a series of very similar deep fried snacks which in no way constituted a full meal. The service was patchy and we were in a odd side room behind a sliding partition, not in the bar as promised. The sparkling water we ordered was poor - and didn't come in any recognisable branded bottle. Absolutely not worth the £3.95 paid for it. I felt like we wasted our Friday night at Benares and would not recommend it to anyone.

Not bad for 20£ value and the staff were lovely. Food was ordinary Indian and really miniscule portions. A let down .

Although we will soon be dining in the restaurant at Benares. on Saturday evening we thought we would just go for drinks and nibbles in the bar area and see what the street food and cocktails were like before we experienced 'the real thing" - we were not disappointed, both the street food nibbles and the cocktails were amazing, the staff were friendly and attentive and we couldn't have asked for any more to be honest. We are really looking forward to dining in the restaurant now - we couldn't really see from the bar area what the restaurant looked like as the dining rooms appeared to be hidden away behind screens (which is nice for diners having privacy from the bar area). Very impressed so far.

Overall our experience was wonderful. The tandoori chicken delicious, service great. Our only mistake was the mackerel appetizer recommended by our server. Very fishy

Enjoyed every moment: we were well looked after, the food was up to our expectations, the location very elegant. Only note: we were expecting it to be just slightly more "Indian"

Great food and great service. We were in a hurry to attend a show after Dinner. The items were served just on time and in right order. We will be back soon with more time in hand to explore the exquisite cuisine.

Absolutely outstanding experience - thoroughly loved it.
We were especially impressed with our waiter who made us both feel extremely at ease. Sadly we can’t remember his name but we do know that he was a fellow ‘Northerner’ (from Stockport).
The King Prawn as part of our starter, the tandoori lamb cutlets and the chocolate-flavoured curry were particular highlights - as well as the cocktails!
