A family-run restaurant close to the popular Sauchiehall Street shopping street in Glasgow, Banana Leaf serves a mouthwatering selection of authentic Malaysian Chinese recipes in an intimate setting of dark woods and floral wallpapers.

Recipes passed down through generations are made with the freshest ingredients on the Banana Leaf menu. A selection of starters make perfect sharers, such as fried squid rings with chilli mayonnaise, and salt and chilli tofu cube with peppers and onions. Aromatic soups include one made with fresh prawns and chicken dumplings, while hot and spicy additions can be found in recipes like the beef brisket with curry sauce. There are specialities like venison served on a sizzling plate, and flavoursome rice and noodle creations also. The vegetarian and gluten-free options on offer make it a truly versatile menu.

I had the restaurant recommended by a contact and visited to celebrate a birthday. It was a quiet day but still a couple of other tables occupied. The waiters were attentive and thorough in their explanation of the menu - it is a big menu with a lot of details, however, any questions we had was answered straight away and with a smile. We didn't wait too long for our food, which was absolutely amazing! I've not before eaten authentic Malaysian/Indonesian cuisine so I've got nothing to compare it to, although the flavours and the presentation was spot on - especially the Chicken breast in Yuzu Lemon Sauce was a pleasure, as well as the Beef Brisket Rendang was a new favourite. The waiter and waitress made sure that we were cared for and explained the dishes and the preparation methods. It is moderate priced but the food was well worth it. Can highly recommend it to anyone interested in trying real Malay-Indo cuisine.

Tasty and plentiful summer tapas style meal.

Opted for all vegan dishes, especially loved the spinach + edamame salad and stuffed tofu in peanut sauce. The martini I had was also beautifully presented, with petals atop, and stemless glass on top of a small bowl of ice.

I'd just returned from three months in Malaysia and had fallen in love with the food. This was my first visit to a Malaysian restaurant in the UK. They have got it right - the range of textures and tastes were spot on. Maybe some of the dishes could have had a bit more of a 'kick', but that's a personal taste.

Small unassuming place but food was excellent. Vegetable spring rolls to start, must have been about 8 mini size and a nice sauce too. Mains was a double roast of duck and pork with a honey glaze and sauce, again very good. Very attentive staff but not intrusive. Will visit again.
