A beautifully restored and preserved Grade II-listed Georgian manor house that is filled with original features, Backwell House treats diners to modern British dining with stunning views of the rolling Mendip Hills. There is a bright, airy conservatory dining area, intimate drawing room, and hand-crafted bar to enjoy fine wines, cocktails and whiskies too.
The Backwell House menu takes advantage of its farmland setting, using local seasonal ingredients, as well as produce from its own vegetable garden, and honey from its own beehive. To start, there is parsnip soup with apple and curry oil, moving on to mains like local venison haunch with celeriac and thyme, baby leeks and garlic. Inventive international tweaks can be found with seafood dishes like cod with spiced lentils, pak choi and onion bhaji, and vegetarian options including Jerusalem artichoke risotto with artichoke crisps and candied hazelnut.
Indulgent traditional desserts are served at Backwell House in Bristol, including sticky toffee pudding with banana and clotted cream. From the elegant bar, there are artisan spirits, including a selection of fine whiskies.
A quintessentially British slice of elegant country house dining, Backwell House is a 6-minute drive from Nailsea & Backwell Rail Station.

Always disappointing when you leave a resteraunt hungry !!.
1st course was ok. Main course well cooked but no potatoe / rice to accompany so felt hungry and decided to have pudding. Parents enjoyed thier's, but probably the most tasteless cheescake i have ever had. I consider myself a bit of a cheescake expert having eaten this in every continent and usualy my go to favorite dessert. This one was just like cream on an over compressed base. Zero flavour.
£35 for 3 courses not worth it.
However, the lunch snack which i saw other people eating with envy for £9.99 did look nice and substantial.

A very enjoyable anniversary in a sunny conservatory. Attentive and smiling staff. We enjoy the short lunch time menu but it would have been nice when booking
to know that there was no set lunch only light bites and sandwiches.

Excellent service. A little disappointed with the lack of lunch options although our choice was tasty

I had booked dinner at Backwell House as a special treat for my husband who was turning 40. On arrival we were enthusiastically greeted by Nikolas who took my coat and showed us to our table. A quiet corner setting as requested. We enjoyed a really lovely 3 course meal, all the food was excellent as was the wine. The only gripe that we had is that the main courses were delivered within seconds of our starters being cleared. After an amuse bouche, fresh bread and a VERY substantial starter - our main course would have been enjoyed more had we been given 5/10 minutes to digest. The restaurant was not very busy and we did not take long to eat our starters so saw no reason as to why this should happen. We did mention it to the waiter who was apologetic. We then requested some time before ordering dessert so we could make room. Aside from that, the food and service was superb and I would highly recommend Backwell House for a special dinner.

Location - excellent.
Food - good.
Service - poor - there were myself and wife and another table of 3 people, yet we had to wait 40 minutes for our first course. Seriously detracted from our experience.
