Still serving up fabulous pan asian fusion food to very high standards. I love the soft shell crab here and the black cod. Great ambience. Great service. Gorgeous staff

A chic basement dwelling entered via a glass triangle-shaped pod, Australasia brings modern Australian-style cuisine to central Manchester. Alongside Pacific Rim flavours and influences from Europe, Indonesia, South East Asia and Japan, guests can indulge in a modern take on afternoon tea.
An Asian-style afternoon tea is served in 2 ‘waves’ at Australasia in Manchester, with fresh salad and sushi followed by sweet treats accompanied by flowering teas. A cherry-picked list of sakes and exclusive cocktails are served at the bar, and cleansing infused water flavours include watermelon, and orange & galangal.
The Australasia menu also features a rage of supreme sashimi, nigiri and Californian rolls, as well as tempura, and sizzling delicacies from the robata grill. Amongst the ‘big’ and ‘small’ plates, favourites include warm duck salad with papaya & peanuts, or crispy suckling pork belly with pineapple curry.
Whitewashed brick and woven wicker furnishings are found indoors at Australasia restaurant, while the canopied garden terrace offers a tranquil urban oasis. Salford Central Station is a 7-minute walk away.

We really enjoyed the Asian afternoon tea .It was a nice alternative to an English one and the cakes especially were delicious
We booked on line and it was advertised as afternoon tea with a glass of champagne ,but on the menu it was shown as "champagne" which was actually sparkling wine.It was very nice but not as advertised-disappointing
Also our cakes disappeared and we had approximately an hours wait between waves
Finally the heaters kept coming on so it was ridiculously warm and we had to keep asking for them to be turned off
A nice tea but could have been better
Our waitress was excellent

Excellent...food surpassed expectations. everything was super fresh and presentation was perfect. We had a mixture of small dishes including soft shelled crab tempura, sashimi, little goats cheese balls with beetroot etc and a fabulous chocolate sphere with incecream in with salted peanut caramel and hot butterscotch sauce poured over. Service excellent too. But this does come at a price and 6 small plates, (minimum needed for 2), plus desert and wine came to £106. But worth it to get a good meal out for once and get something you wouldn't cook at home.
