Close to Trinity and Exeter Colleges, ASK Italian Oxford serves a range of traditional Italian food in the heart of this historic University town.

Inspired by the Italian way of eating, ASK Italian celebrates mealtimes as an opportunity to connect with one another around the table. Start with a perfect-for-sharing antipasti board from the ASK Italian menu, and enjoy signature dishes from fresh pasta to crispy stone-baked pizzas with a great choice of toppings. And because there’s always room for dessert, diners can indulge in a selection of beautiful desserts including the chocolate Etna, served with plenty of theatre.

ASK Italian restaurants showcase Italian cuisine at affordable prices, with allergen information on hand if ever you need it, plus a fun kids menu. Premium beers, including Sicily’s most famous craft beer, Messina Bira, are available alongside Italian wines, cocktails and soft drinks, like a refreshing craft lemonade.

Opposite the New Theatre, and within a 4-minute walk of the Oxford Playhouse, Oxford ASK Italian is perfect for a delicious pre or post-theatre meal.

Pleasant staff. An average experience otherwise. We were first shown to a table for two near the back of the restaurant. Unfortunately this was next to the ground floor toilet and there was an unpleasant smell from the drainage pipes. We asked to be moved to another table which was central and much better. Food okay, though not as good as I had hoped for. We had starters and mains, and as we had a Tastecard 2 for 1 offer we decided to splash out a little. The sea bass was very oily and served with fried new potatoes. My husband had the belly pork which was substantial, and served with fried new potatoes and al dente broccoli. Both my starter (prawns) and my main course were slightly overcooked. Slow wifi connection meant we had to wait a long time for Tastecard app to load so we could pay the bill. Would go again, but would go for something more basic like pizza or pasta. We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to the Ashmolean, so it was convenient for us, and it was very busy when we arrived for our 2pm reservation. Most people were eating pizzas which looked good.

I dined here yesterday with my husband and daughter. We had already been to other ASK restaurants during our trip around the south-west of England and once again we found excellent and friendly service. The food is delicious and the menu can easily accommodate different dietary requirements from vegan to dairy and gluten free. It's a pity they do not offer a wider variety of fish options among the mains. Nevertheless, the menu is varied and you are spoilt for choice. Great place for families as children are made welcome and can spend time drawing until the food is ready.

The staff seemed overstretched, but, still made the effort to be pleasant and helpful within the constraints of being very busy. Good job and thank you. Tastecard worked well on main course and starter :)

Service was excellent, friendly and efficient. Surroundings were nice, quite a nice ambience too. Food from the 'bargain' set menu was disappoInting, especially as I made my main course choice based on what I really wanted for dessert - which they then told me they ran out of. Adult portions were plentiful, but bruschetta too vinegary, and fettuccine way too soft. Food looked as though it had been thrown on a plate. I ordered a salad as a main and was offered balsamic and oil to pour over as a dressing, but didn't fancy this after my over-vinegared bruschetta. So I was surprised to find the salad didn't have any other sort of dressing, which made it all a bit dry and uninteresting. The sea bass from the main menu did look nicely cooked, and went down well. Children got a bit of a mixed meal - there was only one starter on the menu, and the portion was a bit mean, although it did come with veggie sticks. Their pizza was a good size, though. They asked for the chocolate pizza for pudding, which was a full-sized pizza covered in melty chocolate and strawberries. Sounds great - though the grown ups ice creams, which again were not very generous, melted while we cut the pizza up into reasonable chunks for the kids to tuck into. I ended up with the unmemorable tiramisu- it was ok, but not one I'd go back to the restaurant for. In the event the chocolate went all over the table, making it totally impractical as a dessert. This was a family lunch and it was great to catch up with grandparents, so I didn't complain at the time as I didn't want to spoil the occasion (we'd already asked them to turn the music down - which they did willingly, we were sitting under a speaker and could hardly hear ourselves speak at one point), but I would not return to this restaurant based on the food.

My friend and I use Oxford Ask occasionally, usually when we go to the theatre. This visit was the busiest I have even seen it but the service was brilliant - our waitress was friendly, efficient and very pleasant (sorry but I didn't get her name). Everything took a little longer but that's to be expected when it was so busy. Food as usual was good - no complaints at all.
