Restaurant description

Boasting one of London’s most exclusive settings and a rooftop bar, contemporary Spanish restaurant aqua nueva sits on top of the former Dickins & Jones department store. The Robert Angell-designed interior mirrors Spanish culture, with ornate black and white mosaic floors running throughout, and a glimmering copper-coloured vaulted ceiling giving a nod to the famous sherry casks of Jerez.

aqua nueva in London sits right in the hub of Oxford Circus. Its rooftop terrace offers breathtaking views across the city skyline, and is the perfect setting for one of the colourful cocktails prepared by the mixologists. The ‘Inspired by Spain’ cocktail menu complements the food menu, alongside a range of aqua classics.

Spanish recipes and tapas classics are given innovative tweaks at aqua nueva near Oxford Circus. Head Chef Yahir Gonzalez presents a menu of small plates inspired by the culinary heritage and innovation on Spain, offering a flexible, seasonal dining experience. Guests can also enjoy a moreish range of bar snacks all day.

Ultra glamorous yet retaining an intimate ambience, aqua nueva restaurant sits opposite the London Palladium, and is just moments from Oxford Circus Tube Station.

It was a very pleasant meal. After reading reviews we were prepared for small portions, however we were very pleased with the portions that were 3 balanced courses. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant had a decadent, luxurious feel. We took our time, 2 hours, and never felt rushed. The only thing to remember is that the set menu is a guide price, after a coffee and a shared bottle of sparkling water and the 12.5 service charge our bill rose by £12 p. Person. But that aside, will return, definitely.

Service was very good. Food in general was very enjoyable but my wife’s octopus was sent back as it was too tough to eat.

Welcoming, friendly staff. Very stylish restaurant, if a little dark. The outside roof terrace would be fabulous in the summer time. The three courses provided within our deal, although delicious, were very small portions and very limited on choice. The starter portion was ok, I won't usually eat three courses as I don't have a huge appetite. The same main course featured on the a la carte menu was priced at £32. Ours arrived and consisted of three very small bites of short rib. I can only assume that the full price portion would be very much more generous! It was very tasty but very fatty, so I even had to cut some off. The desert, although delicious, was three very small cubes no bigger than a square of chocolate. There was only one option. The included cocktail wasn't to my taste at all, but that's not the fault of the restaurant. No alternative was offered though, not even a small glass of wine. The restaurant was very quiet, even in December. I did like the surroundings and the food, but overall, even at the deal price, I didn't get value for money.

We initially chose this restaurant for its location - and we were very pleased. We had the offer of 3 courses with cocktail for £25 - there is a service charge on top of this - the food arrived promptly and was delicious - no complaints

Food was good, but dishes small. Ambience more suited to bar / nightclub than restaurant.

A lovely bar with a great selection of drinks. Bar man was a bit too keen to take payment for our drinks once we ordered - we were dining there so weren't about to do a runner. Nice set menu, very tasty modern take on tapas. My friend dining with me was gluten free so was assisted with menu choices and a different dessert by our helpful waiter. I asked for a large glass of red wine (happy to pay double what was on the wine list per glass at 125ml). I was told they didn't do large, only served one size so I'd need to just order an extra glass if I wanted double the quantity. I didn't want a second glass, just a double measure as pedantic as this sounds. Only 125ml measures in a "Spanish" restaurant? Unheard of! And something which needs to be addressed. I understand mood lighting and this definitely has more of an evening feel, however at times it was a little too dark in places. I don't mind mood lighting but not when I have to tilt my menu into the light to read it and not when I can't see the toilet sign because the walkway was too dark. Also, one of the female toilet doors didn't work/close properly/lock. Something which needs to be checked ahead of of every service and fixed immediately. You can't charge £14 per cocktail and yet not have a working toilet door. The venue is lovely, very smart and cool and great for an evening out with friends or a romantic date. I appreciate with different restaurants under one roof names need to be checked at the door as you come in but my name was checked as I walked into the building, as I arrived on the designated floor out of the lift and again at the entrance of Aqua Nueva, A little excessive and made the whole place feel a little too much like it was trying too hard. I'd understand if the place was heaving on a Saturday night but it was a quiet Tuesday. Overall a nice experience. I'd come back to try the main menu, but a few things definitely need ironing out to make this the place that it aspires to be.
