Good food but for the set menu the portions are somewhat on the small side and the free cocktails were no more than a couple of sips and the rest ice. Great location, setting and ambience.

To date we have had really good experience of deals with book a table. Sadly this was not so at Aqua Kyoto. This is not a restaurant but a bar with disco like music that was so loud you could not hear yourself think. The food was good but miniscual portion sizes. Service was also not good apart from being served our first drinks we weee not asked if we wanted more. When asked at the end of our meal if everything was ok when I said about the music I just got can’t do anything about that as the music is everywhere not even an apology that we had not enjoyed the evening.

My guest were kept waiting a long time before being allowed in and arrived at table stressed!
Poor service. Gave the impression of good service, but our half my lager on my partner’s foot. No apology. Ordered salmon sashimi but mixed sashimi came. Price charged was much higher than expected or warranted.

Food was good, but music was too loud for easy conversation. Service was friendly but slow and slightly off hand.

We really enjoyed the food however the restaurant should consider better separating the bar and the dining area. Loud music does not allow to enjoy the food properly.

My Japanese friend was really looking forward to eating food cooked by a professional Japanese chef and we were both quite disappointed. The starter, warm sushi, was lovely....the main, a kind of black rice risotto with a few bits of squid and other fish was ice cream desert was attractively served in chocolate ice cream cones, but the actual ice cream was quite mediocre...The cocktail included in the meal deal is quite nice, but the waiter needed persuasion not to serve me any gin (his attitude was quite inflexible)....Americano coffee @ £3.50 a pop was dishwater, although the Italian headwaiter made me another cup which was nice.....the terrace is a busy cocktail destination with a view over the neighbouring rooftops. The only good thing was that they didn't chase us away when we finished eating and we enjoyed a good catch-up. It is a very big restaurant (looks Chinese rather than Japanese) but it was almost completely empty - just a busy terrace outside.

The restaurant was very trendy and the wait staff were faultless. Noise was a huge issue, with dining tables being next to the bar. Even on a Tuesday evening we had to raise our voices to be heard and conversation was difficult. We decided to try this venue first as a set menu just to see how it fared, but we left after the meal still very hungry and ended up venturing into another establishment for extra food. That is not to say that the food wasn't great. It was exceptional, just that for a 3 course menu, the serving sizes were sub par. Overall a good concept and one definitely suiting post work drinks, but not somewhere I would recommend for dinner.
