This is my favourite Italian restaurant. I always book to come and dine here when in London. Delicious food, great wine selection and super service. Love it.

A true taste of rustic dining from the south of Italy, Apulia is a charming, rustic trattoria that's just moments from Smithfield Market. Specialising in Puglian cuisine, this is an intimate little spot with quirky design touches like vintage bicycles on the wall and weathered white wooden furniture.

Classic Puglian family recipes made with authentic ingredients using traditional methods are the focus on the Apulia menu, starting off with rustic appetisers like marinated beef tartare with fennel and sun-dried tomatoes, and oven-baked caciocavallo cheese with braised apple, raisins and honey. Freshly made pasta delicacies feature options like slow-cooked duck ragu, and spaghetti with sea urchin pulp, fresh tomatoes and coffee powder. Perfectly fired pizzas are made with a carefully guarded dough recipe, and topped with imported meats and other Italian treats.

All desserts at Apulia in Barbican are homemade, and include baked dough ball filled with custard cream and sour cherry, and the gluten-free almond and chocolate cake. The wine list offers up celebrated Italian vintages, and there are a selection of irresistible homemade breads served also.

A truly authentic trattoria in London, Apulia is seconds from historic attractions like the William Wallace Memorial, and only a 3-minute walk from Barbican Tube Station.

I love this restaurant, a telling sign when I've visited somewhere in London more than 5 times. very relaxed setting amongst the buzz of Farringdon. recommend the Caciocavallo al Forno & carpaccio di manzo (if sharing starters) and always have the duck ragu!! beautifully paired with the brunello (which they have by the glass should you not want to share a bottle).

Lovely meal and friendly, helpful staff. Went for lunch on bank holiday Monday with my two young children. The staff were great with them, even offering to distract them while my wife and I finished our meals. The food was excellent (fish dishes) and the overall experience was a really enjoyable meal.

Good south italian cuisine - very different from the bog standard fare offered in most UK italian restaurants

A good lunch from the set menu: fresh ingredients all very tasty. The mozzarella in the starter was ultra creamy, the beef in the main was a small portion but very tender, and the sauce rich and delicious. The rum baba dessert packed a punch. A drinkable glass of house red went very well with the beef. Service was swift and efficient. I'd definitely go again.

My friends enjoyed their dishes but I was very disappointed. The starter of Carpaccio di Manzo was covered with what seemed more like lukewarm and bland bechamel sauce than melted parmasan, and the carasau bread was more like poppadoms! The Orecchiette e Brasciola had no trace of cacioricotta cheese and the pasta was swimming in an underseasoned and uninteresting gravy. The Bavarese al Pistacchio was gray and disappointing. I have given Apulia good reviews in the past, but I shall decline from posting about this on Tripadvisor! Fortunately, the company (which I provided) was excellant!

Overall very nice - service good and attentive; lovely Chianti. Starters were delicious but the mains for three of us a little disappointing...the vongole pasta was over-cooked and lacked flavour i.e. garlic. My friend had the sea bass and I think it was a bit under-cooked but he wasn't too keen.
